Enma sits in his arm chair and stares at the doorway. He has been sitting in the armchair for three hours, precisely, and only rose once. He rose two hours and forty-five minutes ago when he moved from his arm chair to the locked safe in the other room. He retrieved the locked chest inside the safe and then walked to the doorway and presented it to Tsuna, who took it and left.

Now Enma sits in his chair and thinks about both Tsuna, the ceremony he is going to participate in, and the Shimon family's fate.

The house that Enma's chair is located in is large, a large house, with a large plot of land around it, and a large iron fence surrounding that. The security is provided by the Vongola, they say it is to keep the Shimon family safe. Enma knows it is to keep them locked away. For years the Shimon family was forgotten by the Vongola and had even fallen to the point that it was about to forget itself. Enma is the last head of the Shimon family and is surrounded by only the bare bones of a hunter family's subordinates. His guardians are strong, strong enough to take on the Vongola, but not to win, and Enma refuses to allow the Shimon blood to be shed in vain, like it has been for years.

The first Shimon was the cousin of the first Vongola and but for a mere twist of fate, a twist of genetics and blood, he would have been the head of the most powerful Hunter family in existence. Instead, he became its sacrifice, willingly spilling his blood so that the Vongola could gain the powers to subjugate vampires. The Vongola's blood did not hold the power to break a vampire's bloodlust. The Shimon line did. But power corrupts, and the power to hold vampires under one's thrall corrupted absolutely. Four generations later and the Shimon family was only remembered as being a family whose blood was 'especially delicious to vampires', as a 'weak family', fit only for 'bait'. And so they had been used as bait in a bloody war, tricked into the job and their numbers razed.

By the ninth Vongola the Shimon family was forgotten, the vial of Sin referred to as 'war blood'.

They had made themselves known at Tsuna's inheritance ceremony, had hurt one of Tsuna's guardians, had tried to take back their power and name… they'd failed, but Tsuna was a young man filled with Mercy.

So odd for a hunter.

Enma turned his eyes away from the door and laid his cheek against the cool leather of the arm chair. He had no wish to be in Tsuna's shoes, fighting vampires and zombies and ghosts, dealing with difficult guardians; like the half vampire he would be subjugating to a life of servitude tonight, or suffering from Reborn's violent tutoring.

But some days, he did wish he was not a Shimon.
