Jun. 27th, 2010 01:18 pmThere are people in the past who need to know about the future. People who are Vongola's essential allies who need to know about their new abilities and their future enemies. Uni takes it upon herself to tell them, wrapped in the comfortable crackle of Gamma's flame. The earth shakes with the return of the Vongola guardians to their own time. It's in that split second before the ground begins to shake and the Vongola are dropped from the time warp, before the Arcobaleno leave them and return to the future, that is when Uni does her work.
The first soul/mind she touches on is Dino Cavallone's. The Cavallone's sky flames are warm, comfortable, tinged with power and strength and maybe a little bit of Sun. Uni strokes along the edges before she delves in, delivering the knowledge and memories of his older self in as gentle a manner as possible. She keeps things simple, only those memories having to deal with the fight against Byakuran, the Vongola's training, and Dino's part in it are transferred. She edits out the memories of Dino's personal life, takes out the whispered conversations with Romario about 'impact' and 'those back in Italy'.
Thank you. Dino says subconsciously, his conscious not even aware yet of the memories that he has received.
She does not stick around long, Gamma's lightning flames are impatient, uncomfortable with her so close to another man's flames. Ever protective, her Gamma.
She waffles on who to touch next, Rokudo Mukuro and Xanxus are both dangerous individuals with dark minds. It is then that Uni thinks she should have saved Dino for last. She decides on Mukuro, because surely Xanxus will not seem so bad after touching that man's mind.
It is dark and cold where Mukuro is, and his mist flames twist and curl in the ether. If Uni still had a body she would shiver, instead she curls tighter in Gamma's lightning crackle flame. She makes the memory drop as quick as possible. She takes out the memories of Fran, of how is freed from his prison, but any other memories are too tied into the battle, into the fight.
Why, hello there. His mind attempts to curl around Uni and bring her into his dream. If it wasn't for Gamma Uni might have been pulled in by his flames. Lightning strikes and breaks up the mist before Uni and Gamma vanish again.
They take a moment, souls curled like ying and yang together, before approaching Gamma. The good thing about where they, their death and their spirits and the crack between worlds, is that Uni can take as long as she needs without a wit of time passing in the real world.
Xanxus' soul burns like a bonfire, even through the darkness of the world between worlds. It's a hot flame that chews up and eats away at the reality around it. Uni wonders if things corrode faster when Xanxus is around. His mind is hot and almost burns Uni's when she transfers his memories. There is a brief moment of simmer just afterwards which Uni assumes is a silent thank you.
She hesitates, hesitates and thinks hard before visiting two other people. Gamma says she doesn't need to, he even attempts to hold her back, but these people are people she needs to see. They are two people who she believes need to know. Irie Shouichi is first and it takes her a second (of her time) to break through the memory blocks that one of his past-future selves placed in his mind. (That future can no longer exist, for it is yet another world where Byakuran controls the world.) The blocks dissolve and she sends Irie Shouichi more information than she had gifted the others with.
She knows that for Irie Shouichi it is a burden, not a gift. It is the memories of a friendship that should never have been, the knowledge of a friendship that must happen. She wonders if she overloads him, his sun flames flickering and dimming and flinching away from her touch before it flames brightly, a steady flame. Uni is the one who communicates, touching that young but bright flame, thanking Irie Shouichi.
It is harder to get Gamma to allow her to visit the next one. He fights her every step of the way, not seeing that she needs to do this.
Byakuran shimmers, a blue-white light of a flame. There is a faint string that flutters off from his soul and brushes against a barrier that is impossible to detect. On the other side of that barrier another string flutters connected to Byakuran's flames from that world. On the other side of that world is another barrier, and another barrier, and another world, and another barrier… The barriers are Uni's work, they are Uni's purpose. She and Gamma will exist as long as they are needed to keep another Byakuran from existing.
His soul is so young, there is no taint yet, and Uni is quick and efficient. She does not want Byakuran's mind touching hers, his flames corrupting hers, his thoughts…
She leaves him with the memories of devastation, of lives on his head, the pain of his loss to Sawada Tsunayoshi. She leaves Byakuran with a few memories of his relationship with Irie Shouichi.
She leaves him with one memory that is not his own, the memory of Byakuran's death from Irie Shouichi's eyes.
Uni does not think of the memories she is giving him as a gift, she does not think of them as a burden for him, she considers them as penance for a crime he will never be able to commit. She is sure that this time, in this world, he will be stopped should he try.
She hopes that he never will.
