Jun. 21st, 2010 03:55 pmIt was obvious from the medical reports what was going on. Somnapaths were rare, but Yanagi knew that Akutagawa Jirou of Hyotei was one. And Jirou was a strong one as well, strong enough to reach and enclose Hiyoshi's mind from wherever he was. Generally somnapaths had to be in the same room as their target and most somnapaths had to be touching the mind of the person they were going to bring into the dream. That was why you couldn't use somnapaths in a fight, they were generally useless. The lack of aggressive or defensive techniques to somnapathy meant that most somnapaths ended up working with children or as therapists.
Yanagi had heard that they did quite well as therapists.
Still, Jirou's power… well, it was obvious that his somnapathy was anything but non-threatening. He had successfully knocked out a psychic and then barricaded his mind from entry. The only way Yanagi was going to get inside Hiyoshi's head was if he was willing to fight for it and possibly sacrifice Hiyoshi's mind.
It was a good thing that blunt force wasn't the only thing they had going for them.
Sengoku was being subjected to a hissed argument, anger radiating off of Kirihara and being diffused by Sengoku's sunny disposition. Sometimes Yanagi wondered if Sengoku's thick-headedness and loud thoughts were the only reason he had managed to put up with Kirihara and Akutsu's anger issues for all these years. It wasn't like Sengoku was a dead zone, more like he had some strange empathy power that couldn't be gauged but was quite effective.
Yukimura and Sanada were in their office conferring. Yanagi did not have to be there to know what they were saying, who they were talking about, and what they were planning. He was curious, however, as to how all of these events had managed to coincide. Oh, Atobe showing up chasing Hiyoshi wasn't that big a surprise. Yanagi was positive that Atobe wouldn't wish for anyone to have access to Hiyoshi's mind and the memories within, memories like Atobe's death and his weakness. But Hiyoshi coming to Rikkai? That was obviously due to the Yamabuki crew's favorite technopath living on Rikkai's moonbase.
Muromachi was so useful to have around. He had fixed their generators the last time there had been a glitch, and he hadn't even charged them ridiculous fees for it.
"Kirihara." Yanagi signaled that Kirihara should direct his attention away from his boyfriend. "Come here."
But there were too many coincidences. Niou and Akutsu never got along, but seeing those shadowy psychics with Yamabuki had tipped Yanagi off and he had begun investigating. That was how he found Hiyoshi, and that was why they incarcerated him. Yanagi could only make vague guesses still onto who the Shadowy Psychics were but he had a feeling that the death of Rokkaku's Ojii and the death of Hyotei's Atobe were connected. Not to mention the kidnapping of Rokkaku psychic Itsuki Marehiko.
Who now that Yanagi thought about it, was also on the moonbase.
Coincidence?
"Yes?" Kirihara bounced up to Yanagi, but sent a very pointed look at Sengoku over his shoulder. You didn't need to be psychic to read the message 'this isn't over yet' loud and clear.
You're going to need to access your state of self-actualization. Yanagi planted the idea in Kirihara's mind and headed towards the medical bay. Follow me.
