How they keep getting up and fighting back, how no matter what the setbacks they're always willing to face death head on. Watching the Vongola Tenth, a teenage boy who has not even officially ascended the Vongola seat yet, battle Byakuran…
Shouichi feels weak. His battle wound seems so infantile compared to the injuries Tsunayoshi is now dealing with as he battles Byakuran.
Tsuna isn't even doing it to save the world. He's doing it to get back home with his friends. To get back home and watch the fireworks.
Shouichi blinks slowly, and it seems like an eternity. He's convinced himself, since his memories returned, that the fate of the world was more important than the fate of those close to Shouichi. That defeating Byakuran would be worth any number of lives.
Completing his machine took the deaths of thirty-two men, and critically injuring fifteen.
The bullet that put Tsuna to sleep caused four men to slip into comas that they were unlikely to ever wake up from. It killed five. Shouichi had created it in secret, and there had been less pressure. Byakuran-san had forced volunteers on Shouichi for his machine, men and women captured from the front lines against the Vongola.
Shouichi closes his eyes again when the X-burner blooms in the sky, bright yellow and orange and white-hot.
He feels so weak, and so tired.
Shouichi wonders if the Vongola ever feel like this, or if it's just the bad guys.
