Spock has seen that humans fight, and fight often. He has often overheard Star Fleet officers say that 'the closer you are, the more you fight'. This seems illogical to Spock, for surely the closer you are, the more you will understand one another, and the less you will fight. As a child Spock often fought with the other children, but he never rebelled physically, mentally, or verbally against his parents.
Perhaps though, it is a human habit that requires siblings. Human siblings are both close, and yet are often extremely confrontational in their interactions.
That analysis would make Jim Kirk his brother, and Spock refuses to acknowledge his reckless captain as such.
Yet. From the actions of his parallel universe self it appears that one day he will consider Jim something more than a brother.
That is alright. It will give Spock time in which to grow used to this new habit of 'quarrelling'.
