Title: Tribes of Blight

Author: Kitti-Chan

Pairing: Hee hee, wouldn’t you like to know? ~wink~

Spoilers: AU

Summary: A plague wipes out everyone over the age of 18, the Scooby’s endure.

A/N- Since everyone over 18 has died I decided not to kill the demons. Don’t ask me why it just doesn’t affect their physiology. Also Angel is still a vampire he just has no demon… I know it does not make much sense but I needed him around. I set it before their junior year because I did not want to deal with Aus and Hell and coming back and the mayor. Which brings me to him. He’s dead, he was basically human and over 18; hence death. Also Giles, sadly, died and not so sadly Ben died too; taking Glory with him. Dawn however will still appear because the monks (who have died) had to put the Key somewhere.
And yes I do love Hyena!Xander

Feedback: Would be much-ly appreciated

Faith and Oz stood guard at the brightly lighted, needing to be re-patched wall. Both wondered when it would be fixed, but apparently since the last job had been so badly done Buffy was going to wait until the resident handy-man, Xander, was free and until he had people who knew what they were doing free to work with him. Three people who were usually put to rebuilding the compound had projects that they were working on right now, but could be put off in a day or two. And apparently ‘General Buffy’ would be breaking out the decent supplies to fix it up. Most people were recovering from last nights attacks or involved with immediate tasks that needed to be completed after a battle so Faith and Oz had been stuck guarding the wall. They knew Andrew had been drafted into digging around in their storerooms for reasonable building supplies. He had eventually found the problem with the generator. Apparently one of the cables had been chewed at. Rats.

“You know I’ve always wondered. Why aren’t you and the little medic still hooked up? I heard you two were a hot little item at the beginning of the plague.” Oz shrugged, looking at her before glancing away. Faith also shrugged, she had just been trying to make conversation.

“Wolves mate for life, did you know that?” Oz finally answered after a long pause and the Slayer looked both shocked and intrigued. She’d kinda given up on hope of a release from boredom without a fight.

“No. Don’t that mean you and Red should still be together?” The former Bostonian used Spike’s nickname for the witch/medic. The vampire might not be the smartest of creatures but he was could come up with some damn fine nicknames.

“We never actually ‘mated.’ There were a lot of things going on, Angel was missing, she was getting over Xander being, however briefly, with Cordelia, and then my cousin bit me. When I turned into a werewolf she saw that the plague was not going to affect me, and she was worried it would kill everyone in her life. Plus there was never really a way for her to accept my demon. It was the first bell toll in the death of our relationship. Then we shelved it for a bit to deal with the plague and forming Alpha Tribe and it just died out.” Faith was gaping at him and Oz had to wonder why. Turning around he checked for anything that might have snuck up behind him, checked if he had turned a funny color before finally meeting Faith’s eyes and raising an eyebrow.

“That’s- that’s the most words I have ever heard out of you!” Faith was pointing now but the gaping had stopped. “You aren’t Oz are you? You’re some sort of thing that took over Oz’s body!” There was a definite joking tone in her voice and Oz couldn’t stop a small half-smile. It was probably the most words he had spoken in a single sitting since the plague started.

“Yes. You’ve caught me. I am Wordy-Oz here me verbalize.” Faith grinned back at him and they settled in for the rest of the night. When their watch ended and two of the other tribe members took over Faith walked with Oz back to the barracks. Only people like Head Medic, or Head Tech got their own rooms, others had to share and the only reason people who headed one of the Tribe’s many units had rooms of their own was because they also needed a workroom attached. Quarters were separated into small rooms shared by two people up to the larger barracks of male and female. Sometimes couples with large families would be given rooms of their own or they could join a commune of families all living near each other. While they might need to expand in a year or two so far Alpha Tribe had plenty of space.

Stopping outside the men’s barracks Faith turned to Oz. “Oz, just to tell you. I could accept the demon.” Oz gave her an unreadable look before another small smile.

“I’ll take a rain check Faith, but thanks for the offer.” With this Oz turned into the room and the brunette walked away a bright smile slowly blooming over her face. She had had a lot of shitty boyfriends but somehow she knew that if she and Oz ever hooked up it’d turn out as the best decision she had ever made.

Angel looked into the infirmary, and Willow gave him a bright smile looking up from the binder of health records, which she had been updating. The infirmary was a vampire safe room all the time so Angel occasionally stopped in there to talk with her or check in on a wounded person. Today Willow had no doubts as to who he was planning on talking too. “He’s got the privacy curtains pulled, but I doubt he’s asleep.” Willow said and winked at him. Angel nodded and headed over to the bed where his wounded childe was convalescing. Spike probably was not sleeping, in his wounded state he was likely to be sulking or, heaven forbid, brooding. Pulling back the blind enough to step inside Angel closed it behind him.

Spike was sitting up in his cot, leaning back against a set of pillows with bandages wrapped around his injuries. On the table next to his was an empty beer bottle with the label peeled off. Raising an eyebrow at that Angel decided to ignore the question of how and why the beer was there in order to contemplate something vastly more interesting.

Spike’s calculating expression.

“Spike…” Angel started but was immediately waved off by his youngest grandchilde.

“Poof I don’t want your blood.” Angel stared, eyes dinner plate round.

“Um, why not? I mean, it would help with the healing.” And it would, would probably speed up the healing by a week if not a few days. With Spike living off animal blood, and a limited amount at that, it would take him forever to heal. Being laid up was something his hyper active grandchilde hated.

“A couple of reasons.” Spike stated and rolled his eyes as the older vampire just continued to blankly stare at him. “Stop trying to figure me out, you’ll hurt yourself.” Ignoring Angel’s irritated expression Spike continued. “First off my demons under control and it’s not something I want to test with something as strong as Sire’s blood right now. Might drive my bloodlust nuts. Secondly, Harris actually brought me decent beer to thank me for saving the witchling and platelet’s lives before. And finally I’ve been enjoying the view.” Vague hand motion in Willow’s directions and Angel groaned before burying his face in his hands. He therefore missed Spike’s delighted grin at being able to annoy his grandsire again.

“Spike, please don’t even think of hurting Willow in any way. I can’t handle Xander going on another murder spree.” Angel’s voice is muffled by his hands and they had been speaking softly enough not to be heard by Willow before so someone without vampire hearing might have missed his words.

“Oi! I resent that! Wasn’t planning on hurting her none!” Then the cerulean blue eyes glazed as he remembered the rampage Xander had gone on when Dawn had been injured by a G’reLstug-ni demon. “Bloody glorious he was that time.” And Xander had been, he had been a cold, hard and merciless killing machine and he hunted down every demon within their area and slaughtered them. Male, female, larvae, didn’t matter. They all died. Word got out into the demon community then and all the G’reLstug-ni anywhere in California had run for their lives.

Angel glanced up at this statement before groaning again. His idiotic blood-childe couldn’t fall for just one of the Slayerettes. He had to fall for two of them!

Dawn switched off with Willow at night again, the older woman giving her a hug before heading off to sleep. Dawn was feeling proud of herself and very confidant. Willow had complimented her on her work with wrapping Spike up before and later with digging the bullets out of the wolves’ bodies. She was finally starting to feel needed and possibly liked. A few people who had seen her while fighting complimented her and offered to help train her up. The young brunette had actually done fairly well for herself once she had gotten over dealing with this whole life-or-death situation thing, and she had turned down the offers because she was training with Xander. Though maybe she should have accepted them Xander was always so busy.

“Psst! Hey Dawn!” And the brunette walked over the vampire who was gesturing that she should take a seat and talk to him. Well, nothing else to do right now.

“Yeah Blondie?” The blond vampire frowned briefly at the name her pseudo-brother had given him but got over it.

“Got some questions for you nibblet. I’ll make it up to you if you answer ‘em.” Dawn paused thinking it over. Must be pretty important if Spike’s willing to barter, but what might she actually want.

“Okay, I can’t promise to answer all of you questions, especially if I don’t know but I’ll try if you give me self-defense lessons and let me in on it if it’s really juicy.” Spike gave her a toothy smile before nodding and Dawn held back a squeal only with the knowledge that there was a sleeping woman next door. She hadn’t felt like a real teenager in…. well ever. “So watcha wanna know?”

“Red and the whelp, they an item?” Spike watched as the waif thought it over.

“Dunno. I mean there area a lot of people who think that Xander and Willow are sleeping together but I don’t think so. I mean, they get along and are really easy with each other but they do not act like they are having sex. In a compound this small there isn’t really that much room to sneak around in, so if they were together everyone would know. Plus Xander would make it known. He’s had some bad relationship problems in the past… or at least that’s what I’ve heard! Don’t know anything about Xander’s love life first hand! Nope!” Dawn’s eyes were wide and slightly panicky and Spike is instantly interested. Especially since there is a definite smell of fear coming from her now.

“You can’t lie waif. Give me some answers and I’ll give you a lesson in deceit.” But no matter how much Spike pushed Dawn would not tell her whatever she knew and instead of risk a slip up the youngster kept her mouth shut until Willow relieved her. Then Dawn was running out of the infirmary down to where Xander was working out. Until she had to go to sleep Dawn followed him for the rest of the day, and
