Dec. 18th, 2009 07:21 pm...That?
...was an uninspiring myu.
For starters... the musical numbers were just... blah. No wonder no one's released rips of it yet. Now, maybe it's because it's Rikkai B but...
Whoever was musical directer for this? NOT UP TO PAR. The songs were choppy, the music was... relatively simplistic and not in a good way. The lyrics... I can't hum anything from this myu! The team numbers were pathetic, and the solos were just... What were they thinking?!
...though neither was Ueshima-sensei. The Choreography felt like they were just rehashing things, or hadn't put much effort into it. Taito's dancing was like an imitation of Yun's, which fell flat of the real thing. I hope they let Taito find both his own VOICE and his own DANCE.
I realize that Yun was like, ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING FUJIS EVER... but Taito needs to figure out how to do the moves on his own. Each Fuji puts a different spin on the triple counters... Taito's just seems like an imitation.
The Fuji solo, a staple of Myus... It wasn't bad, but again, it felt like an imitation of Yun. Taito has his own voice, he doesn't need to go for breathy!Fuji. The song itself was uninspiring as well. Lots of just keeping the beat, no real tune there.
Speaking of Myu staples - the Tezuka solo? Un. Im. Press. Ive.
The match with Tezuka left me face palming. For one thing, I feel like new Tezuka is a flashback to the MinaKei years, except that MinaKei was OFF SCREEN most of the time and I actually LIKED MinaKei. I realize I can't hope for like A TON... but there was juts nothing from Tezuka, no spark, no flare, no long winded deep voiced ballad that left me swooning in my seat.
Oishi's attempt to cheer Tezuka on (yudan sezo ni ikkou!) came off more DESPERATE then supportive.
New Rikkai was... new. Different. I can't really give you much of an impression though. Their group singing was... eh. And the songs really weren't tailored for them.
Niou was perdy though. DAMN perdy Niou.
Kanesaki is amazing, and he tried to bring life to Sanada, again. This time with some srs 3< faces. But the song they gave Sanada was...
WAS RIDICULOUS.
Not only are we back to the terrible flapping flying flailing arms of first cast, but the music was vaguely Higa-esque! TROPICAL MUSIC? WHY?!
Kane-chan did his best, but that was just ridiculous.
Rikkai's theme from the beginning was NOT EXHILARATING. It did not make me thing 'these are our rivals, GANBATTE SEIGAKU'. It wasn't spooky, or threatening, or tension filled. It wasn't energetic. It was just blah. Seigaku's team song for this myu was also blah, although the scenes at the beginning with soft focus were cute though. XD Cute. Although really, Tenimyu, abandon the cactus. IT MAKES ME PATENTLY UNCOMFORTABLE NOW.
New Kirihara's not bad. He's kind of cute even. And the song with Renji was cutely done. Not the BEST rival players song I've ever seen, but cute. I expect Genki does it better though.
Inui and Kaidoh also did their best for this match... but I was not wowed by the Kaidoh song. DON'T MIND SENPAI? ...it could have been cute. But it wasn't. Kaidoh's actor was focusing so much on the gruff Kaidoh voice that he was growling to the music. Now this CAN be done well, but... it fell flat. When his real singing voice broke through it was wobbly around the edges.

...utterly inappropriate, I know, but my first thought when Inui showed up in that bed.
Dream scene = relatively well done. Entertaining to say the least. And then LOL WTH Inui's only bandaged from the HEAD. XD What.
Cute InuKai scene was... cute.
And honestly. HONESTLY they did not need the whole Shitenhouji cast. THEY COULD HAVE DONE WITH A HANDFUL OF BOYS. Shiraishi obviously they needed, but the others? You could have traded boys out. Having the entire cast there when Zaizen, Gin, Chitose, and the baka pair are basically superfluous?!
XD I don't understand the bit with Shitenhouji for intermission, but I was VASTLY amused at the audience's reaction to Shiraishi. OH FANGIRLS. Shitenhouji's song there... really breaks the tension. I understand that Shitenhouji is ONE OF THE FUN SCHOOLS but... TENSION? And the music was just... UNINSPIRING. C'mon. Katta mon gachi ya? AWESOME SONG. One of my favorites. This one? Sounds like something you'd play during a 24 hour telethon.
...blah myu, blah. :(
