Osaka was where the revolutionary new eye clinic was. Dad liked the Osaka art life, and so he'd travelled there more than once selling his pottery. So it wasn't any trouble for his dad to get an apartment (okay, it was a little expensive, but he spun a few awesome looking bowls and they were good) and set Chitose up so that Chitose could go to school. Shitenhouji was nice enough, he guessed, but it wasn't Kyuushu, and the other students weren't Kippei.
"Hey." Someone greeted Chitose from his blind side and sat down. Things were getting a little better, but stuff was still friggen fuzzy. Chitose could barely make out the board most of the time. Turning he looked into the cheerful looking face of some guy with light colored hair. Shitenhouji had some *weird* hair. Chitose had thought it was weird that Kippei'd been allowed to die his hair, but he'd fought for that right. This guy did not look like a fighter.
"Yo." Chitose greeted, closing the book on go in front of him. Go was kind of interesting. Maybe he'd join the go club. Or the shougi club. Chitose liked shougi too.
Or maybe the travel club. He liked travelling. Taking random train trips had been a habit of his in Kyuushu, although he supposed he hadn't gotten used to Osaka to do it. Plus. Half blind. Kind of cut down on the 'I can randomly wander off' vibe.
"You're Chitose, right?" The guy started up again. "Chitose Senri." The guy held out his hand, it was wrapped in white bandages that ended before the sleeves to his summer uniform began. Chitose wondered when they'd switch to winter uniforms. Osaka was kind of hot. It wasn't even like the heat of Kyuushu, it was weird. "I'm Shiraishi Kuranosuke."
Chitose blinked. Right, he was being talked to. "Yeah." Chitose shook Shiraishi Kuranosuke's hand. "I'm Chitose."
Shiraishi glanced at Chitose, stared, and Chitose stared back. It was kind of hard to have a staring contest when you only had one eye and the other guy had two but Chitose managed. He hated backing down from a challenge. "I heard you played tennis."
"Whoa." Chitose held ups his hands. "Played. If this is some sort of tennis team come on, played, man. I'm blind in one eye. Can't play blind, dude." Partially blind. He wouldn't be any use on the courts. Sure, he was good, but… he wasn't that good. Kippei'd always been better.
"Ever hear of muga no kyouchi?" Shiraishi asked, leaning in, his voice dropping like he was telling Chitose where to buy drugs.
Chitose shook his head. "Heard of what, dude?"
"Muga no kyouchi." Shiraishi leaned back, smirked, stood up and headed for the exit. "Do a little research, I think you'll find that blindness doesn't really matter. Much."
