Elliot wouldn't admit it, ever, never, not where anyone could see... but Gil had been his first crush. He knew it was wrong. Gil was 'family' now, and it was... it was wrong. Gil had been in the Vessallius household before... But there was something about Gil that made Elliot just...
"Don't touch that, Elliot." Gilbert didn't scold, not like Nanny did, and certainly not like father. Elliot sat back in his chair. Gilbert let him watch too, while he played with his grown up toys. A gun was not a toy, Elliot knew this, just like Elliot's black blade was not a toy. But still, it wasn't like Gilbert would ever use a gun.
"Are you going out with Vincent again tonight?" Elliot asked. Elliot did not like Vincent as much as he liked Gilbert, though he had known Vincent longer. Vincent was like poisoned honey, while Gilbert was filtered sunlight. Not that Elliot would say such things out loud. Elliot could barely say that he tolerated Reo's presence, and Elliot had picked Reo out himself.
Gilbert closed up his gun and slid it into his coat. "No, there's something else I have to do tonight." And Gilbert had smiled at Elliot, small and painful, before ruffling Elliot's hair and leaving the room. The next day, Gilbert was gone, Raven was gone, and the only thing left of Elliot's birth right was the black sword held tight in his hand while he sliced through another practice dummy.
He imagined Gilbert's face each time.
