They're not the Jimmies any longer. That nickname faded out after high school, with Sengoku halfway across the country, and with Minami and Higashikata both attending different schools; there was no way for the nickname to survive. Minami and Higashikata are merely themselves, merely Minami and Higashikata, no longer part of a dual existence that left both of them overshadowed.

Minami is a stage actor now, in high school he started auditioning around, and his rather blank nature, and height, got him noticed quickly. He never gets lead roles, but he has played the supporting actor in several recent hits. Minami is never typecast, he is a blank slate until the script hits the ground and the director takes over, and after that he can be anyone.

Higashikata attends college, intending to finish up a degree before becoming a salaryman. He has accepted that he will never be anything special, but you do not need to be special to be good at your job and make money. Higashikata's father has provided for his family for years as a middle-management official. Higashikata likes the business courses he is taking, he enjoys the math, and he does not need to stand out.

On Tuesdays each week Higashikata saves his excel worksheets and packs up his laptop before catching the train. The train is packed, always, and Higashikata is jostled until he feels like a scrambled egg. By the time Higashikata reaches Minami's tiny apartment he is grateful for the tiny amount of space he can stretch out in. Minami is never home when Higashikata gets there, unless Minami is between plays, or was not needed for rehearsal that day. Higashikata lets himself in with his spare key, and starts to clean up all the mess that Minami has accumulated in the past week. Empty ramen cups get thrown into the garbage, and half drunk sodas are emptied before being added to the recycling. Higashikata then checks the fridge.

Some days there are ingredients, some days there is mold, and some days there is beer. It all depends.

If there are ingredients, Higashikata starts cooking Minami the only healthy dinner he will eat that week. If there is beer, he runs to the store, if there is mold, Higashikata begins cleaning and hopes Minami will bring something home with him.

When Minami arrives, with food or to the smell of it cooking, he is greeted by Higashikata's familiar presence. The stress of acting, or living on his own because his family has moved away from Tokyo, the pressure of being normal, fades away. Higashikata can feel the stress of studying slide off of him as well, the pressure to be a good businessman, the need to be what his parents want.

Every Tuesday, they return to being Jimmies, for a few hours, and only with each other. When it comes down to it, it is enough.
