I think we've lost a degree of patriotism. When I watch these old movies of soldiers heading off to WW1 or WW2, I just think 'we don't send people off like that anymore'.
Maybe it's b/c we know too much about what goes on now.
Maybe it's just shaving away at that blind optimism. It's like, does not knowing make it better? No. But... simpler times were simpler.
