May. 28th, 2009 02:01 amWhen it came down to it, Itsuki was really greatful that Ojii had hidden away all of his assets. If someone had thought that Rokkaku wasn't all Ojii had left… well, Itsuki didn't think Hyotei would have bothered taking control of a little used bookstore on Rikkai's moonbase, but they were always looking to set up operations elsewhere. Itsuki wouldn't have put it past them, especially not after what they'd pulled.
If Aoi hadn't been exaggerating.
The little bookstore was great too. After hopping around any number of pleasure planets, and space station resorts, Davide, Aoi, and Itsuki had found their way to Rikkai's moonbase and this tiny little bookstore that was being handled by Shudou's cousin Nishikiori. They hadn't felt right completely taking over, though Nishikiori had been willing to relinquish quite a bit of the book keeping and running of the store. He said that running the store was too much trouble; he'd rather go back to being just an employee. So Itsuki, Davide, and Aoi had each taken part of the work load upon themselves. It was nice, not exactly relaxing, but comfortable. They'd contacted Sae-san and Ryou and Bane-san about it of course, but Sae-san was apparently going to stick around Seigaku's space station until someone kicked him out, and Ryou had run a lottery and was now off on an interstellar cruise… Bane-san had apparently hooked up with a famous actress and was currently spending his time kanoodling with her.
Itsuki wasn't sure he liked how spread out they all were, but he guessed that was what happened as life went on.
Itsuki whistled through his nose and slumped down onto the counter. The little used book store turned enough of a profit that they were able to stop from dipping into their savings, but it was tough. And the long hours on his feet were tough too! And Itsuki especially hated when he had a shift when no one came in. Though, they were a small used store offering discounts on used electronic readers, with a large selection of electronic reading material (books, to the latest news updates, to slightly perverted things that Itsuki didn't feel comfortable selling), and a small selection of new and used paper books. Itsuki liked the paper books, even if the artificial atmosphere of the moonbase made them delicate. They made Itsuki feel good… though part of Itsuki's stomach revolted at the thought, because he had liked paper books. Itsuki shouldn't feel safe, or wanted, or… anything. It was Stockholm syndrome, and the planet hopping he'd done with Davide and Aoi was supposed to get rid of that.
The little door to the shop swooshed open, and Itsuki perked up. He couldn't immediately see who the customer was, because the view from counter was distorted by a large and slightly imposing hologram of Davide shaking a finger and warning against shoplifting. (They hadn't had a case of it, but they'd had several near cases.)
Itsuki got a good feeling from this customer though. "Welcome! Can I help you?"
