Fuji twirled the glass around in his hands. The ice cubes inside clinked against the sides of the glass before he set it down again. The dark wood of the bar was stained and scratched, from a million drinks and a hundred bar fights. Fuji liked the bar, it had character… and it was on neutral ground. It was Rokakku's turf, and while Rokakku was Seigaku's ally, they also allowed a lot of trade and partnerships to be made with Shitenhouji, Hyotei, Rikkai… They were enemies with Higa though, if a member of Higa stepped onto Rokakku's turf they'd be dead faster than if they'd stepped onto Seigaku's.

"Fuji Syuusuke." A soft voice, nigh feminine, very similar to Fuji's own, announced the arrival of a companion at the bar. "Did you come for the music?" Yukimura Seiichi asked.

"Maybe." Fuji smiled, placing the rim of his glass against his mouth to hide his smile. He sipped from the whisky on the rocks. Fuji's childhood friend Saeki Koujirou crooned out a lovely little tune, while his accompanist Itsuki played along on the piano. Fuji liked the music at this little hole in the wall too, whether it was Muromachi Touji on sax, Tachibana An belting out jazz, or Saeki crooning, there was always good music.

Yukimura placed an order for a martini, and waited next to Fuji until it arrived. Fuji didn't need to turn to see the skulking shadow of Yukimura's body guard Sanada. "It must be tough being a mob boss." Fuji commented blithely. Rikkai and Seigaku weren't enemies, but they weren't friends. Rikkai had held back from entering Seigaku's war on Saint Rudolph, not that Seigaku had needed the help, and Fuji held a bit of a grudge.

"Renji tells me it's so much easier to be the power behind the throne." Yukimura took a delicate sip from the martini before making a face. "Bathwater gin will be the death of me one day."

"Let's hope that day doesn't come sooner than you think."

Yukimura smiled at Fuji, a sweet smile containing poison as powerful as Fuji's. "Shall we toast to that? To long lives." Yukimura lifted his glass. Fuji, impulsively, clinked his against it.

"To long lives." Both took a swallow before setting their glasses down on the bar. Both men pretended not to notice the sudden tenseness in the air, the one wrong note hit by the piano player.

"Was there something you needed, Yukimura?" Fuji asked, dragging his finger through the water ring left by his glass. He drew a small heart on the bar top with it.

Yukimura nudged his martini forwards, and planted his elbows on the bar. "I thought, perhaps, I could help you with something, Fuji Syuusuke." Fuji turned to look at Yukimura, his face open and obviously confused… if you didn't know he was acting. Yukimura smiled and tipped his head to the side. "I heard you were dissatisfied with your current life at Seigaku… I thought you might be willing to, as the saying goes, switch teams."

Eager silence from bar patrons pretending not to listen in. Fuji smiled at Yukimura, and life sprung back into the bar when Sanada turned to glare at the others. News of Yukimura's offer, and rumors of whether Fuji accepted or not, would be circling the city in seconds. Fuji would be surprised if he didn't have Seigaku snipers climbing over roof tops to shoot him already. Not that anyone in Seigaku would ever order Fuji's death, and Tezuka would be very displeased with him if Fuji was killed by one of their amateur hitmen.

'Don't get careless'.

"What would have given you that idea?" A brittle undertone to his words.

Yukimura signaled the bar tender to come back, and slipped the man more than enough money to cover his drink. "Renji reports that you've had a tough time since that new boy, what was his name, Echizen, showed up."

Fuji nodded his head slightly, confirming Yukimura's information. Echizen made Fuji feel tense and itchy. Echizen made everyone tense and itchy, it was a wonder the boy wasn't dead yet, and Fuji was chalking that up to Echizen's luck more than anything else.

"You'd be welcome." Yukimura dropped elegantly from the tall bar stool. "Goodbye, Fuji Syuusuke."

Fuji smiled and picked up his glass. "Don't wait up."
