Okay, this is my post on time travel. :x And possibly, how Reborn is doing it wrong. I debated doing a bunch of other series as well (Heroes, Den-O) but I'm freakishly lazy so...

Okay, so, time travel is, obviously, the action/thought/theory of moving between two spots in time. It's been the basis of a number of movies, sci fi novels, and anything pertaining to Doctor Who. Time Travel, honest to god, rocks. For one thing, it gives all sorts of physicists, mathematicians, and geeks in general, something to boggle over. Is it possible? Can it happen?

Theoretically... yes. And people have a lot of theories about this, but I'm not going to try to explain them because well... honestly I'm not qualified. :D

Let's start with something simple

Aaaaaaaaah, Lambo, and his 10 year Bazooka. Now, ignoring how the Bazooka WORKS, it's actually a pretty sound principle. One major twitchy paradox about time travel is you cannot exist at the same time as your self. For one thing, it brings up the whole 'is the future predetermined?' concept, for another, it occasionally ends with one version of yourself dying. (Actually, that happens pretty often). So anyway, the 10 year bazooka is pretty sound... in this concept at least.

Ah ha! Another good theory, Lambo!

If Lambo were to die in the Ring battle (which we know he doesn't, but still) would 10YL Lambo have ever appeared? It's actually a matter of 'is the future predetermined'.

Event A leads to Event B leads to Even C. Pretty straight forward right? Nothing can change it, it just happens. And the fact that Lambo comes back from Event C to Event A changes nothing... Anything Lambo does, says, changes, etc. doesn't matter, because in order for him to exist, the future will have to follow this simplistic time line.

Basically, it's one big loop. You go backward in time, you trip on a butterfly... but that butterfly doesn't matter in the course of events, because if things were supposed to change, you would never have gone back in time, and never tripped on that butterfly, and so things WOULDN'T have changed. Which means you would have... gone back in time, and tripped on the...

You see what I mean? Any actions you take which 'change' the timeline would change your OWN timeline. Which is why often enough time travel stories consist of someone going back in time to stop an event...

And causing it instead.

AND YET.

What if, every 'choice' made in the world opened up countless possibilities and countless parallel worlds.

A can lead to both B and D, depending on a choice made. (Often these 'parallel worlds' are created for 'important events'. Lincoln's assassination, the night you were conceived, etc.) Depending on the choice made, the events that take place, an entirely different world could form.

For example, the night before Lambo's battle, TYL Lambo doesn't remember the battle for the rings. It's possible that, should Lambo not have shot himself in his sleep, Tsuna might have stepped in and forbid Lambo to battle. Or wouldn't have been so preoccupied with Lambo that he went back early instead of training. Maybe Lambo would have run away, who knows. But whatever happened, Lambo going back in time changed that.

Thus, because Events A lead to B lead to C... and the time traveler has gone and CHANGED something about Event A... Event A now leads to Event D. Which, either cancels out the time travelers existence at all, or he goes back to his own 'parallel world' and continues existing in his happy life. IDK. Or if the time traveler has traveled to the FUTURE he HIMSELF is changed, thus when he goes back to the past, he will change his future. (AKA, TSuna will return from this nifty time travel trip and... make sure that the Millefiore never happened. Thus creating another parallel world. Unless, you know, time is fixed and parallel world's don't exist, and thus whatever Tsuna does to CHANGE the future will actually create it.)

AND. Now we get onto the point where I get... yeah. Thanks for sticking around. ♥

This is how the TYL bazooka works right? Unless it's misfiring and doing weird things like Chibifying Gokudera, or sticking Lambo's brain in his adult body. You exchange yourself with the person you'll be... 10 years from now. And it's only supposed to last 5 minutes... unless it's malfunctioning. Anyway.

We know that when Reborn is shot, he doesn't reappear. Why? Is he dead? WHO KNOWS. Oh wait, Shouichi knows.

Makes perfect sense right? If Reborn's TYL body is stuffed in a big white machine, then not even his corpse is going to appear in front of Tsuna right? (ew, corpse)

But. But but but but. We have a problem. See, if Shouichi's stuffing people's bodies in a giant white closet so they don't return to the past, that makes perfect sense. It means that whoever is transported to the future can also stick around, since they won't be existing in the same time as their own self.

BUT. BUT BUT BUT.

DOOOOOOOOOOON.

Not ten years later! Which is still okay, since they'll have 2 months in which to defeat the Millefiore, and then return to their own world, and only five minutes will have passed!

Right?

Eeeeeeeeeeeer, WRONG. Because we already know that Reborn is missing for AT LEAST a day. Not only that, Yamamoto, Haru, Ipin, Lambo, and Kyoko all go looking for Tsuna and Gokudera when THEY go missing.

And Ryohei's frantic searching for them has TRAINED HIS BODY TO THE EXTREME.

Which means... time is continuing in the other world

Ignore the crappy picture, you get the... picture.

ANYWAY. This means that there was no reason to confine them to being sent '9 years and 10 months' into the future ANYWAY, because they will STILL be returning after at least 2 months have passed in their OWN time.

UNLESS, when they have finished up with the future, Reborn gets sent back to the past... and changes it.
