Mar. 23rd, 2009 02:08 amUNDER 1K AND AS SUCH STILL A DRABBLE. SUCK IT YOU STUPID PLOTBUNNY.
Shouichi wasn't always 'Shou-chan' just like Byakuran wasn't always 'Byakuran-san'. Back in school, at first, Shouichi had been 'Irie-kun' and Byakuran had been 'YOU!!!!!' complete with capslock and exclamation points. Sometimes it was followed by verbal key smashing, depending on what Byakuran had done or if Shouichi was in a mood. Their friendship hadn't been an instant thing, Byakuran hadn't set eyes on Irie Shouichi and thought to himself 'my, that pale, scrawny four-eyes should become my most trusted subordinate' and Shouichi didn't meet Byakuran's eyes and think 'I'll build my best work for this man, and then take the moral high ground'. Shouichi looked at Byakuran and saw that weird, skinny, freaky transfer student who spoke perfect Japanese and hid bags of marshmallows in his desk. Byakuran looked at Shouichi and saw the class representative who had been told to keep tabs on him, and as such must be irritated and ignored as must as possible. If possible Byakuran would have to do both at the same time.
Byakuran, of course, eventually ran for Student Council President.
Shouichi, unfortunately, ended up as Vice President when his opponent dropped out of the race due to a sudden emotional melt down.
Being a student representative took a lot of time and effort, and was nothing like the comics, where student council's ran the school, or enjoyed a lot of perks, or had lavish offices. They had a clubroom of their own, but it was half the size of a normal classroom, and half of that was filled with filing cabinets. Shouichi often ended up working late correcting the secretary's ledger, or bickering with Byakuran about whether the treasurer was embezzling from their funds.
Shouichi became 'Shouichi-kun'. Byakuran became 'Gesso-san'… and occasionally 'you' pronounced with killing intent when Shouichi had shown his other side.
Sometimes, Byakuran would drag Shouichi out to the arcade, where the win-lose ratio was 50-50, except at DDR, where Byakuran kicked ass. Sometimes Shouichi would invite Byakuran over to his apartment, and then they would close themselves up in Shouichi's room, designing Choice.
It took a torrid rainstorm and flash floods to morph 'Shouichi-kun' to 'Shou-chan'. Byakuran was stuck at the apartment, and inconveniently for Shouichi he would finally have an actual conversation with Shouichi's mother. Shouichi had never invited Byakuran over at a time when such a thing could occur, and had been hoping it never would.
'Shou-chan, eat your vegetables' Shouichi's mother had scolded.
And so, Shouichi became 'Shou-chan', and Byakuran became 'stop calling me that!' until Shouichi gave up and started calling Byakuran by his first name in an effort to irritate Byakuran that never succeeded.
And then school was done, and the real world happened. Shouichi became a technological genius, and Byakuran became a mob boss, and the two of them were still tied together by a string of fate (if it was red, it was red, who knows, it could be blue) and more importantly Byakuran could trust Shouichi to deliver the goods, and not to spill the beans. Shouichi could trust Byakuran to protect him from the real world in the same way Universities protected grad students, and buried himself in his studies and his machine, emerging to arrange Byakuran's life, and hunt down marshmallows. Byakuran was now 'Byakuran-san' because some sort of respect had to be shown, but more often than not when in private Byakuran was 'anata'.
Slowly but surely Byakuran managed to gain what he wanted, what he needed. The white machine would be complete in time to summon the Vongola guardians from their past so as to obtain their rings, the Gesso were under his control, and the Arcobaleno were being killed by their curse, though Byakuran had helped it along. Everything was working out.
Except where it wasn't. It was obvious from the look in Shouichi's eyes that Byakuran's 'most trusted subordinate' would not be able to keep that position long. (Though, given that Byakuran didn't trust anyone else, it might remain Shouichi's until his death.) Byakuran didn't know when it had started, though if he was a betting man Byakuran would have said it was the merger with the Giglio nero that had made Shouichi take off his rose colored glasses. Perhaps it was after Byakuran's meeting with Uni-san. Byakuran knew that Shouichi had met Uni after that, at lease once or twice, and perhaps it was the dead look in Uni's eyes that made Shouichi start to plan against Byakuran.
Little girls could be so much trouble sometimes. Whenever Byakuran didn't inform her of his plans Uni-chan would get so angry at him… But she was so helpful in so many other ways, and they had a deal, so he couldn't get rid of her quite yet. She was a good playmate too, when Shouichi was busy. Things would have been so much easier if she wasn't quite so charming.
Then, of course, things began to move. The final stage had been reached, and it would be all down hill from there. All Byakuran needed to do was kill a handful of children, and he could reshape the world.
Pity that Shou-chan had abandoned him for the other side, but Byakuran had seen it coming. It didn't stop Shouichi from being 'Shou-chan', and it didn't stop Byakuran from being 'Byakuran-san'.
Friend became Enemy, and the Earth continued to rotate around the sun, but the end was nigh.
After all, even if the Vongola won, they were pretty much fucked.

I tend to lose it either when Shouichi starts getting ideas of his own, or maybe I just never start it out right, IDK.
Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaail.
