kat8cha: (blood and bruised)

The skin on the back of Saeki’s neck prickled as a familiar, chilly presence approached him from behind. “Hello.” Saeki did not bother turning, continuing to pack up his things instead. His office was the last one to close down, and when Saeki left the building it would be time for the next generation of Rokkaku to step up. After this last case and Ojii’s death, Saeki and the other’s had agreed they had enough. Ojii had trained more than just them anyway, older and younger psychics were stepping up to take on the weight of being psychic detectives.

“I was surprised to hear that you were disbanding.” Oshitari’s velvety voice attempted to wrap around Saeki’s brain, rubbing Saeki in completely the wrong way. “Though I suppose it does tie up some loose ends.”

“We stuck around for the funeral.” Atobe Keigo had been cremated as soon as possible, as per his will, any evidence that could have been gathered by a decent clairvoyant immediately destroyed. Not that any clairvoyant would have taken the job, Atobe’s death had shaken more than just the planet side psychics, and several empaths or telepaths with improper shielding had died or gone mad. This was why psychics did not get murdered very often.

Saeki picked up the cardboard box of his office’s belongings and turned around.

Oshitari lounged in the doorway, completely blocking it off, wearing a smug little smirk. “Mmm, I noticed… it’s a shame you’re all leaving though, you’re the only group I would have trusted to investigate Atobe’s murder.”

“There’s no hope of finding the killer.” Saeki stated. It was most likely Higa, who had disappeared without a trace and had proven they could kill powerful psychics without a trace. Although their killing of Ojii had been less dramatic, though that could have been attributed to Ojii’s age, his excellent shielding, or the fact that he knew he was going to die.

According to Itsuki, Ojii had known, and given what Itsuki had gone through to get the information Saeki was going to trust him.

“Very true.” Oshitari admitted, and Saeki had to replay the conversation in his head to remember what Oshitari was agreeing to. “Still, there will be even less chance once all of you are off planet… planning a nice vacation from all of this?”

Saeki looked at Oshitari and debated if pushing past him would be worth the physical distance between them decreasing. Saeki did not want to get anywhere near Oshitari if he could help it. “We are.”

Well, Saeki was. Saeki was planning to visit Fuji, and apologize for any panic he had caused with his phone call. Ryou was coming along, because traveling alone was generally a bad idea, and after visiting Seigaku they were going to hop over to St. Rudolph’s and bother Fuji Yuuta and Ryou’s twin brother Atsushi. Saeki’d asked if Itsuki had wanted to come along… but Itsuki had turned him down. Not that Saeki could blame him, it was probably more comforting for him to be around people who did not treat him like he was breakable.

Saeki was trying to stop, honestly.

“And what about the member that Higa held captive? I assume he’s back with you, safe and sound.” Oshitari had to know that Itsuki was. Rokkaku had been hard pressed to keep Itsuki in their hands, and not being questioned by various government agents about Higa, their strength, powers, names, etc. It had taken the last of Ojii’s connections to keep Itsuki free.

And it was exactly why Itsuki was leaving today with Bane, Davide, and Aoi to a planet with lots of beaches.

“Excuse me.” Saeki decided that pushing past Oshitari would just have to do, and he made sure to elbow Oshitari in the gut as he pushed past. “They told me I needed to leave in an hour.”
