"It's not healthy, Yuuji."
Shiraishi fingered the end of his bandage, tugging the white straps tighter before tucking the end of his bandage under the others. "You'll have to stop this eventually." The screens around Shiraishi flickered, green, mustard yellow, multiple screens flashing black and white and snowy before all the screens resolved into the same image. A young man with black hair and turquoise highlights, the wide headband wrapped around his head matched the highlights and the multi colored shirt, shades of yellow to lime green to green to blue-green.
Shiraishi wore the same uniform, knowing it for the standard Shitenhouji issued outfit. The only one who didn't wear such a uniform was Chitose, and he had special dispensation.
"My work hasn't slacked." A screen at the top left snowed before the image resolved again. "And Osamu told me to spend my time with Koharu."
Shiraishi thought about the computer's A.I. A flirtatious, highly intelligent creation that spent it's time making jokes and playing pranks. The A.I. was designed to be a normal enough program, but had morphed over the years as it accumulated knowledge. Koharu had first begun to hit on Shitenhouji's employees, and then focused on the male population, enjoying their reaction. Then Koharu had developed a type, the fiery cute type. Shiraishi hadn't had a problem with it, he wasn't fiery or cute, until the company president had assigned Hitouji, their resident computer expert, to work alongside Koharu. To get to know Koharu so well they could work in tandem despite the difference between man and machine.
"I'm not worried about your work." The chamber Hitouji was in allowed his body to be held in stasis while his mind mingled with the machine. The problem was Hitouji appeared to have fallen for the A.I., and glitches would appear now if Hitouji was aware that Koharu was flirting with someone. The system would slow down if Hitouji and Koharu were… mingling. Or whatever it was they did. Shiraishi couldn't fathom it though Gin said it was just the next step up from cyber sex and not really that kinky.
A second face emerged on the screens, shifting all of the faces of Hitouji off to the left. "He's worried about your obsession, Yuuji!" Koharu's face leered. He had developed the face five years ago, and occasionally would shake it up with a new hair do, or a mask, but the basic set up remained the same. "Kura-rin you're such a good vice-president!"
"I'm not obsessed!" A screen flickered again. "Osamu's the one who-"
"I know that, but this can't possibly be good for you. I don't care how smart you are Yuuji you're not built to work as a machine." Zaizen had done some tests. If Hitouji did not take a break he was likely to short circuit his brain. Then Hitouji might have his mind stuck in the circuitry forever, which he probably wouldn't mind given his obsession. The other possibility was that Hitouji would just flicker out.
"My work hasn't slacked." Multiple flickers. "And Osamu told me to- zzzzzzzz."
Half of the monitors went out before Koharu's face filled all of the screens. Shiraishi stroked his hand down his bandages. "What just happened?" Shiraishi was already fishing in his pants pocket for the emergency call button.
"Yuuji's woken up." Koharu's face mimicked sadness. Shiraishi found it hard to believe that Koharu could truly feel sad, artificial intelligence or no Koharu was a machine and machines could not feel. "Take good care of him, Kurarin. He'll need to get used to the separation."
The screens darkened one by one, switching back to their usual monitoring activities. The screen in the middle flickered back and Shiraishi turned away. "Oh! Kurarin!" Shiraishi turned, Koharu's face leered at him from the middle screen. "Don't touch my Yuuji. He'll be back." Then the screen went black, a view of the medical bay coming up inside. Shiraishi watched as Hitouji was pulled out of the stasis chamber, his limbs shaky and weak from lack of use.
Hot tears gathered in Hitouji's red eyes. Shiraishi saw his lips move, but couldn't make out the words. Shiraishi knew what they were anyway, 'you cheater'.
