Apr. 29th, 2008 11:53 pmWhen Sengoku came to he found himself staring up at an unfamiliar white ceiling that looked vaguely like it belonged in a hospital.
Slowly coming to his senses Sengoku sniffed, wrinkling his nose at the disinfectant stench, and turned to his side to blink up at the beeping machine. Well, he was alive, that was a good thing right? Reaching for the buzzer Sengoku notified the nurse that he was awake. Putting up with all the fluffing, fussing, poking, prodding, and questioning you put up with when you were brought to the hospital under mysterious circumstances and missing a few pints of blood, Sengoku actually managed to get back to sleep only a few hours later. He was exhausted physically and mentally.
Seriously, after dealing with a vampiric best friend who wouldn’t be?
When Sengoku next woke, it was to a pair of inquisitive eyes attached to a head wearing a green headband. The fluffy dark hair hanging from the stranger’s face tickled Sengoku’s cheeks. “Hey! He’s awake!”
The excited eyes, who belonged to an excited young man, moved back. “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Dan Taichi.” Dan Taichi waved. “You’re Sengoku-san! Right?”
Sengoku slowly pushed himself up. He didn’t know these people, but Sengoku assumed that the hospital frowned on anyone dangerous visiting their patients. “Yes, I am.” Sengoku glanced over Dan Taichi’s shoulder at the somber looking, possibly glowering, young man wearing a pair of thick sunglasses and leaning against the wall to the side of the door. “And he is?”
“Oh. He’s Muromachi Touji.” Dan’s smile was bright and infectious, Sengoku couldn’t stop himself from smiling back. “He’s my pet!”
Sengoku’s smile dropped. “Your what?”
“My pet.” Dan’s eyes were serious now, despite his cheerful smile. “After all, you can’t just let lycanthropes wander around on their own!”
Sengoku’s head hurt. “What?” First vampires know werewolves? Had Sengoku hit his head? Was this all some bizarre dream? Was he on drugs?
“Muromachi’s a werepanda, and I’m a licensed paranormal investigator.” Dan pulled out an official looking license and let Sengoku inspect it. It looked real enough, but it could have been a good fake. After all who actually believed in paranormal investigators? “I’m only human, so I need muscle to back me up. Lycanthropes are tamer than vampires, so they’re often who the humans team up with.” Dan leaned over the bed worriedly when Sengoku leaned back onto his pillows. “Are you alright? Should I call a nurse?”
“I’m fine.” Sengoku felt woozy. He felt like his life had been flipped upside down and shaken, like a snowglobe, and now nothing would make sense again. “Does this have to do with Minami?”
Dan’s smile turned into a solemn look that just didn’t suit his face. “Yes. I’m afraid he’s fallen in with a bad crowd.”
Sengoku laughed. "Tell me something I don't know."
