Apr. 4th, 2008 11:49 pmBane would never admit it to anyone, because his friends would not understand, but he had a photo of Kairi from their wedding day tucked into his desk drawer.
Kairi was dressed in white, it had been a western ceremony, and her veil was flowing wildly behind her and cherry blossoms floated in the background. Kairi was laughing and her dark brown eyes were alive with good humor. That was the Kairi Bane liked to remember, the bright, vibrant, happy one. Not Kairi angry about being dismissed from her job, not the angry Kairi who had viewed the Gaku and Hiro as a mistake, and not Kairi attempting to patch their marriage up with another pregnancy.
“Dad?” Hiro tugged on his sleeves. Bane grinned and ruffled the younger twins hair. Kairi had never been able to tell the two apart.
“Yeah kiddo? Whatcha need?” Hiro smiled tentatively back up at Bane..
“Gaku’s hogging the Wii. He says we can’t play doubles.” Hiro pouted. “He says I’m bad at it.”
Bane grabbed Hiro and tossed the boy over his shoulder.
“Dad! Dad put me down!” Hiro laughed as Bane ignored him, continuing to carry Hiro in a fireman’s carry all the way into the living room. On the way he peeked into Kaoru’s room to make sure she was still sleeping. Dropping Hiro into the couch Bane grabbed Gaku this time.
“Eh!” Gaku struggled in Bane’s hold. Bane had wondered how the Kisarazu family had managed to handle raising Atsushi and Ryou, so when the twins were born Bane had asked for advice. Kisarazu senior had told Bane plainly ‘not to favor one over the other’. “Dad put me down!”
Bane began walking back to his study. “Nope, you can’t teach your brother your awesome back hand so you get to help me with some papers.”
Gaku whined loudly. “I’ll let him play! I’ll let him play!”
Bane had a lot of papers that needed sorting , and since the shorting didn’t really matter it was as good a threat as any to use on the kids. “You’ll teach him how to hit a proper backhand?”
Gaku squirmed and in the other room Bane could hear Hiro begin to giggle. “Fine! I’ll even let him be player one.” Gaku struggled to get the Wii controller off his wrist and Bane carefully dropped him to his feet. Gaku pouted at Bane before running to his twin and handing him the controller.
Bane shook his head and walked back to his study. He knew the twins would be whining again come Wii!Golf, this time in the opposite order.
