Yuuta looked up from where he was sitting in the courtyard of the university. Idly his eyes scanned the garden above him, searching for any sign of a familiar blond head. Yuuta could be honest, his brother’s obsession was mildly scary and terribly annoying but it was also something Yuuta could rely on. However since Syuusuke had come back from fetching Atobe-sama’s spouse he had not felt the familiar eyes on him. At least, not since the first few days of his return. Yuuta had stopped feeling like he was being watched when Kunimitsu-sama’s husband was announced.
"Yuuta-kun?" A soothing voice called him away from his mental wanderings and Yuuta turned to look at Mizuki. Mizuki was his senpai in the teaching staff at the university, and had actually helped Yuuta find his path, seeing Yuuta for who he was instead of as ‘Fuji Syuusuke’s younger brother’. Though Yuuta knew that Mizuki was far from altruistic. Mizuki expected his investment of time and help to pay off in Yuuta, and Yuuta was completely willing to repay his senpai’s help with whatever he could.
Plus Mizuki got the cutest look on his face when he was scheming.
"Yuuta-kun? You’re drifting again." Mizuki scolded and Yuuta blushed slightly.
"Ah, sorry Mizuki-san. I have just been a little distracted lately." Mizuki frowned and reached up to feel Yuuta’s forehead. Yuuta’s flush deepened and he backed away from the others hand. "Mizuki-san, I’m not sick!" Mizuki smiled sweetly and moved away, though the twinkle in his eyes showed Mizuki as being far from sorry.
"It’s unlike you Yuuta-kun, I was merely worried for your health." Mizuki tilted his head. "Maybe you would study the material better inside?" Mizuki asked, motioning to the open scroll in Yuuta’s lap. Yuuta looked down at the half-read script before sighing slightly and rolling it up.
"I’m just worried about my brother Mizuki-san." Yuuta answered honestly, locking the scroll shut and slipping it into his parchment bag. Mizuki crinkled his nose cutely, there was no love lost between him and the elder Fuji Yuuta knew, but he had to voice his concerns somewhere.
"Worried he’ll fall from his new perch?" Mizuki made a slight motion of his head, drawing Yuuta’s eyes to where a blond figure sat lounging on a high portion of the wall surrounding the courtyard. It was a spot rather far away from Syuusuke’s usual spot so it was no wonder Yuuta had not spotted him, though the trees shading his older brother probably had not helped.
"Aniki!" Yuuta gasped at the sight of his brother before blushing and standing up, stomping back inside. Mizuki smirked and followed the other.

Yuuta stood in the hallway before the royal library where he had heard that Atobe’s spouse was having his lessons held. Which meant his brother would have to get past him in order to meet up with his ‘student’. Yuuta had been as surprised as everyone else at Syuusuke being assigned to tutor Ryoma. Actually, he might have been more surprised then anyone else. Yuuta had known about his brother’s affair with the prince since before it had even begun, his ears tuned to Mizuki who had ears tuned to the gossips of the court. Yuuta also knew that his brother did not take rejection very well, he would have rather left the court then have to deal with Atobe and his spouse.
Yuuta’s hands curled into fists slightly as he thought of how poorly his brother was treated by Atobe-sama. Yuuta knew that Syuusuke was desperately in love with Atobe, Yuuta had never approved of the relationship because of how little Atobe seemed to care for his aniki. This last event proved that Atobe was just using Syuusuke for entertainment and a cure for boredom. Why his brother had not left the castle for home was beyond Yuuta. Of course a lot of what Syuusuke did was beyond him.
His brother rounded the corner and Yuuta knew the minute he spotted him. To his surprise instead of coming up to talk to him with a smile his brother dropped his head and tried to move past him. "Aniki." Yuuta said and his brother stopped, lifting his head in the moderately crowded hallway and walking over to him.
"Ah, Yuuta, don’t you have classes?" Syuusuke asked, his smile and cheer obviously false. Yuuta frowned.
"Aniki, can I talk to you some?" Fuji nodded his head and Yuuta wondered how his brother could keep up that cheer when he was anything but. The hallway had cleared out, though Yuuta could spot more then a few gossips loitering on the corners. Lowering his voice so only he and Syuusuke could heard Yuuta spoke. "Aniki... are you upset about Atobe-sama?"
"Aa, Yuuta, I’m fine." Fuji said loudly before dropping his voice. "A little Yuuta, but there’s nothing I can do about it, ne?" Yuuta’s eyebrows drew together and he frowned harder. It was odd for Syuusuke to admit things to him, especially about not feeling well or the like.
"You could leave." Syuusuke shook his head.
"I tried, that is why I am now tutoring Ryoma. Atobe-sama’s spouse is interesting." Yuuta had heard rumors about his brother’s mock fight with Atobe-sama’s wife. He did not like the way things were shaping up. His brother did not challenge everyone, only those strong enough to handle it. Aniki may have challenged the other because he was mad about Atobe-sama’s choice but Yuuta knew that if that was what Syuusuke wanted he would have waited for the other to be healthy.
"You could leave if you wanted to." It was a royal decree, true, but his brother could easily find a way around such a thing. If Syuusuke broke it there would not be that much of a fuss even, though Yuuta guessed that the royal decree was basically a way for Atobe-sama to keep Syuuusuke close by. His brother shrugged and Yuuta’s eyes narrowed. It was true that if Atobe-sama wanted to keep him close there was very little they could do about it but his brother could at least *try* to fight it. "You don’t really want to leave do you."
"Maa Yuuta, got it in one." Syuusuke shrugged and Yuuta felt his hands ball into fists. His brother always seemed to just drift through life, never holding onto anything or anyone but he let them hold onto him if they wanted. Yuuta knew that he might be the only stable thing in Syuusuke’s life and Yuuta hated his brothers passive-aggressive stance on the world.
"Why don’t you fight back aniki?" He hissed.
"There’s no reason to Yuuta, everything will happen regardless of my interference or not." Everything always seemed to work out for aniki too, it pissed Yuuta off.
"I don’t even know why I’m bothering to talk to you." Yuuta said angrily and turning around stalked off. He did not see his brothers saddened expression nor the slightly far off look in his eyes as he turned to enter the library.
--
Yuuta nearly snapped his pen in half as he heard several students giggling about the new gossip. Apparently Atobe-sama, his spouse and Yuuta’s brother had all been found in bed together.
"Every time." Yuuta cursed. "Every. Single. Time."
