Higashikata lurked in the shadows.
He came from a long line of lurkers, the most practiced lurkers wished to marry into the Higashikata family, and only the best were chosen. This careful breeding had resulted in Higashikata, who lurked so well that even in broad sunlight and the middle of an airy open street one could pass him by and never know. Not that Higashikata would be out in sunlight, he was particularly sensitive to it.
He was a vampire you see.
Currently Higashikata was lurking, in a very vampiric way if you asked him, watching a very plain young man walk past.
This young man was plain in the same way that Higashikata was a lurker. The young man was a champion at being plain.
To Higashikata, he was beautiful.
Higashikata knew the young man’s name was Minami Kentarou. He knew that Minami had two parents, who he called once a week, and a younger brother whom he called every two weeks. Minami worked at a call center on the fifth floor of the 5th office building on West 3rd street. Minami made a moderate wage and came home every evening, at 7 PM sharp, to his single bedroom apartment. As far as Higashikata knew Minami had three friends; one, Sengoku Kiyosumi who worked in marketing, two, Muromachi Touji, a young man who lived three doors down from Minami, and three, Dan Taichi, an underclassmen of Minami’s from university.
Higashikata had been lurking in Minami’s general vicinity for a long time.
Now though, Higashikata was done with lurking. He was ready to make his move. He was ready to make Minami his. The sweet blood singing through Minami’s veins called to him.
“Ah, excuse me.” Minami was standing in the entrance to the alley, eying Higashikata like he was about to mace the vampire. “Are you okay? You’ve been standing there for a while.”
Well, when opportunity knocked, you were supposed to answer. Higashikata pounced.
