Kite stood on the wrong side of the door, his hand curled around the door knob behind his back.
On the bed Itsuki was sitting, his hands resting palm up on top of his knees. Itsuki’s breathing was steady, relaxed even. Kite gritted his teeth and let go of the doorknob. It was wrong. Something about this was definitely wrong.

Itsuki slowly opened his eyes.

“…” Kite took a deep breath. “Are you thirsty?” Not what he had been planning to say, but Itsuki had been trapped with them for two days now. Kite couldn’t remember if he had ordered someone to make sure Itsuki didn’t die on them.

Itsuki unfolded his legs and swung them over the edge of the bed. “Someone brought me water and food earlier.”

Kite nodded. It must have been Aragaki, or possibly Shiranui. Itsuki stayed seated on the edge of the bed and Kite took a few steps closer. Itsuki was far too calm. Standing in front of Itsuki Kite frowned into his captive’s upturned face.

“Why’re you upset?” Itsuki chirped, curiously.

Kite blinked and took a step back. “I’m not.”

Itsuki’s head tipped to the side, and Kite heard a small train like noise… ah, right, Itsuki’s snorts. “You’re upset… Eishirou?” Itsuki’s brows furrowed, he obviously couldn’t remember what the others had called him. Kite prodded at the delicate mental walls encircling Itsuki’s mind. They jiggled a little, like gelatin.

“Kite.”

Itsuki nodded. “Kite-san.” Itsuki’s face tightened a little as Kite’s mental prodding continued. Kite pressed harder, reaching out he cupped Itsuki’s face and the mental walls parted before him.

Itsuki grabbed his wrist, and things blurred around the both of them.

“Is this your specialty?” Kite questioned, existing in Itsuki’s mind as Itsuki existed in his own. It was a strange sensation. Itsuki’s mind wavered around him, attempting to push him out. “You get into people’s minds without even touching their walls.” Kite’s mental defenses slammed up, blocking Itsuki out, but Itsuki moved past them easily.

Itsuki’s body was pushed backwards as Kite advanced, their physical forms mirroring their mental as Kite pressed further into Itsuki’s mind.

“Why do you want to know?” Itsuki lightly touched upon Kite’s current memories, Kite’s uneasiness, the threat to Rokkaku, the news of Kai’s capture, the… Itsuki paused in front of the memory of Kite’s shooting.

Kite pressed his advantage, pushing Itsuki out of his mind and into his own, pressing their bodies close together and pushing, pushing, pushing.

“This is your specialty.” Kite murmured, seeing Itsuki’s thoughts on his job, on the work he did, about the minds he touched. “Interesting.”

“Stop that.” The mental walls reformed, thicker this time, more like marshmallows then gelatin. Itsuki’s hands pressed against Kite’s chest, pushing him back. Shocks rippled through them both as Itsuki was in Kite’s mind again.

Sighting down the cross hairs, old, so old, he must be looking forward to death by now bald head, one eye centered on…Surprise! What? Is he looking at me? One shot, the psychic shock of death rippling through the crowd like a thunderclap, Kai.

Itsuki’s mind reverberated like a tuning fork, synching up with Kite’s and Kite couldn’t help sliding deeper into Itsuki’s mind. Itsuki’s mind was clear, clean, like a glass bowl filled with water. Kite pondered that lakes must have seemed like Itsuki’s mind once, before they had put such bodies of water to use. Maybe, on the leisure planets owned by the rich, there were lakes that were still clear.

Kai. That shot was mine Orange red hair, blurring. Get back to the warehouse Silent steps behind him, unspoken agreement, darkened alleys blurring

Kite distantly realized he was kissing Itsuki right now, his hands sliding up under Itsuki’s shirt. Itsuki’s body wasn’t resisting him, but it was not welcoming the touches either.

Itsuki stepped back from those thoughts, stumbled back from the memories of Ojii’s assassination. Kite had been hired, that much Itsuki knew. Itsuki had to find… he had to find out who did it.

Itsuki’s mouth opened and welcomed Kite’s tongue inside.
