Niou probably should have expected this chat.
Niou probably should have expected this chat.
If Niou was anyone but himself he would have been expecting a physical beating, or worth, Yukimura questioning him. However, Niou was Niou, and what he go was Yanagi sliding into the empty seat next to him on the bus. The seat was empty because no one really wanted to sit next to Niou on bus trips. Even when the bus was packed Niou was generally in a circle of empty seats. Too many ‘accidents’ happening to people near him.
Niou liked it, it meant he had piece and quiet.
Yagyuu was sitting two rows back, plugged into his MP3 player and dutifully focused on a novel of some sort. Marui and the brat were making a mess, and a lot of noise, as they played cards with a few of the non-regulars who got to take the bus with them. Jackal was futily trying to keep them under control. Yukimura and Sanada sat up front, silence laying heavily between them.
The silence between Niou and Yanagi was far from heavy, but Niou leaned against the window of the bus and waited for Yanagi to break it. Yanagi studied Niou for a few seconds before speaking. “You were not even trying at the end.”
Niou smirked and tipped his head to the side, mockingly studying Yanagi back. He watched the realization spark behind Yanagi’s eyes.
“You were never trying.” Yanagi frowned disapprovingly.
“I wouldn’t have won.” Niou admitted with a shrug. “So I just tried to have a little fun. Fuck with the ‘genius’ a bit.”
“The odds…” Yanagi began, halting when Niou tsked him. “You knew the odds.”
“I’m a trickster, not a gambler, Yanagi, and I knew my best bet was to fold.”
