If Kouichi is honest with himself he will admit that the minute he said those words he was beginning to let Katsura go. It wasn’t that Koichi was falling out of love with Katsura, Koichi was well and truly in love with Katsura and probably always would be, it was just that… it was obvious who was going to win. Telling Katsura he didn’t need an answer was Kouichi attempting to hold on to Katsura just a little longer. Shibata-senpai has been in love with Katsura for years, and Katsura’s returned the affection, even if neither of them realized it until recently.
It’s tough being one point to a love triangle, when no one really cares about who he’s in love with.
