kat8chaI want to buy... a lot of things. One of them being the Prince of Tennis Shining Clear set or whatever it's called. Another being a Lavi Cellphone charm. Another being the little X-men lego's... Another being....
Yes, you get the point. >< Bad place for little Kitti-chan. Anyway, onto this weeks fannish 5.
What are your five favorite canonical friendships?
1) Sam Gamgee and Frodo Baggins.
These two are the most... adorable, sweetest, devoted, cutest, loveable Friends EVER. I mean, while I can ship them in the romantic relationship sense I am a firm believer that their love is OMG SO REAL and omg so platonic. But they ARE and they're AMAZING and everytime I read LoTR or watch the movies I just wanna HUG someone. I mean, it's Master Frodo, and my Sam! FRODO WOULDN'T HAVE GOT FAR WITHOUT HIS SAM.
2) Chitose Senri and Tachibana Kippei
I'm sorry. I know there are huger friendships in PoT, I know there are ones that were formed earlier. I know that I harp on this pair a lot... but I really love them. While we never really see the friendship in action it's just... so... THERE. I think one of the things that strikes me about this pair is that Tachibana quit tennis for Chitose. I don't know if that was decided ages ago, or if Konomi made it up to fit the character... but it just is such a big thing especially since we all know just HOW tennis obsessed our boys are. I mean, they'll give up their eyes, their arms, their hair, their dignity... but they never give up tennis it seems. Except Tachibana DID. And Chitose seems to needle Tachibana, and he knows just where to needle him, because he KNOWS Tachibana.
3) Anne Shirley and Matthew Cuthbert
I'm putting this here because I'm rereading Anne of Green Gables right now (yes, another way to busy myself while I don't have my laptop and am suffering from insomnia. I'll prolly read Anne of Avonlea as well). Anne has this big thing about 'kindred spirits' that she sticks through through the whole series. The thing is, you wouldn't expect a quiet guy like Matthew, a quiet and very shy guy, to mesh with a precocious chatty bright eyed redhead. The thing is, they do. Matthew is just incredibly taken with Anne, and despite their different tempermants Anne and Matthew just... work. Matthew's always there when Marilla does something that drives Anne to tears, and his quiet but solid support is something Anne relies on. It's just so very sweet.
4) Domeki and Watanuki
Okay, how can you read XXXHolic and not like this friendship? It's... well, it's horribly UNfriendly at times, but then there's the other points... Domeki, for all his teasing, really does care about Watanuki. And Watanuki, for all his explosions about Domeki's attitude, grows to definitly LIKE and rely on Domeki. God, I can't even remember my favorite scenes with them. But it's like... Watanuki gives up his eye because he's a masochistic idiot, but then Domeki researches how to get it BACK and he SHARES his own eye. Watanuki changes because of Domeki, and Himawari, and all the people he's met, but the big huge change in his life is DOMEKI (and Yuuko I'll admit). I really, really love their friendship.
5) Tatsumi and Tsuzuki
Okay, rereading DnD just kind of choked me up when I got to the points of Tatsumi's character development. I love how in a long manga you can see the changes in the plot, characters, and art style as it progresses. Tatsumi starts off as basically someone who occasionally gets thrown in in the background, and then moves up to being the secretary with power... and then to being Tsuzuki's former partner. Tatsumi just loves Tsuzuki so much, and it's so obvious. Even if Tatsumi believes in tough love, and thinks he's caused a lot of Tsuzuki's pain. Tsuzuki isn't quite sure what to do with Tatsumi's care. For one thing, he doesn't realize it's there, for another, he still feels rejected because of Tatsumi quitting as his partner. It's not a friendship that gets a lot of limelight, but it's just so... and you know that when Tsuzuki's in trouble, if Tatsumi can make it, he will. And now that we've worked through his angst about letting Tsuzuki die...
Stil don't have my laptop, or my NakaMasa DVD. COME SOOOON. Still no clue if Wada got my birthday wishes, or what.. and I probably never will. ~sigh~ It is also REALLY FREAKING HOT right now. ~fans self~ Very stagnant, there's little to no breeze.
