Nikki I hope you enjoy. I'm not quite as happy with this fic as I want to be, I haven't written the boys in anything other then drabbles for so long...
Aiba frowned. Pink, pink, pink… was pink really the only color these shirts came in? Not that Aiba minded pink it was just that he wore enough pink as it was. "Here." A shirt appeared over his right shoulder, the same shirt, in a nice delightful blue. Aiba checked the size before turning to his mysterious benefactor with a smile.
"Tha- Shirota-san!" Shirota grinned as Aiba stuttered a bit. "Thanks Shirota-san. I didn't know you shopped here."
Shirota gave a nonchalant shrug. "I don't generally." He pointed behind him at the entrance to the rest of the mall. "I was passing by and thought I saw you." Outside in the mall Aiba could see Yanagi and Endo standing, Endo holding all of the bags while Yanagi peered at the window display.
"You shop at this mall though." Aiba debated buying the shirt, then put it onto the rack. He didn't want to appear too girly. Or, was putting it on the rack girly? Aiba didn't know why he always worried about that type of thing around Shirota. Aiba always wanted to impress Shirota, but he always felt like he ended up feeling like a fool.
"You don't like it?" Shirota frowned and Aiba twitched. Shirota's frown always seemed like a pout.
"I like it!" Aiba took the shirt off the rack again. "I've been reading your blog y-" Aiba cut himself off, mentally kicking himself. How stupid did that sound? Or stalker-ish. It wasn't like the third cast where everyone felt comfortable reading and commenting on each other's blogs.
"Really?" Shirota grinned, bouncing slightly. "Hey, I'll buy it for you."
"What?" Aiba found the shirt whisked away from him and blinked in surprise as Shirota cheerfully strode over to the counter. It was unsettling watching Shirota's colorful and rather garish outfit slipping through the type of fashionable clothes Aiba liked to buy. It was a perfect metaphor for Shirota showing up now in his life, just when Aiba had been able to put his crush out of mind.
"How're performances going?" Shirota questioned, poking Aiba cheerfully in the shoulder when Aiba sped up to attempt to steal the shirt back before Shirota could pay for it. Thrown off Aiba blinked before brushing his hair away from his face.
"They're going great. You should come see them." Of course the performances had been sold out since they had first gone on sale. Ueshima-sensei might have had a few set aside for former actors who had requested them though.
"I'm coming tonight." Shirota stated blithely and Aiba blinked again. "I reserved tickets with Ueshima-sensei ages ago. I'm sure you'll be able to see me front and center Aibachii!" Turning to Aiba Shirota pressed the bag containing his new shirt into his hands.
Aiba couldn't help the grin that broke out over his face. "I'll be looking forward to it Shirota-san."
"It's your last myu." Shirota stated with a smile. "And Fuji has a big part. Why would I miss it?" Then, while Aiba was trying to come up with something else to say, Shirota grinned, patted his shoulder, and walked off.
--
"What a way to make a dramatic exit." Endo rolled his eyes as he followed Shirota and Yanagi into a Starbucks. Shirota had barely spoken a word since he had swept out of the shop Aiba had been in. In fact, he'd simply grinned widely. It was bizarre, considering Shirota's usual verbosity.
"Shut up Endo." Shirota huffed a bit. "I'm just basking."
Yanagi snickered as he stood and pondered just what sweet drink he should buy today. "Basking in Aiba's sweet presence? Enya, buy me a frappacino."
"No, you have money." Endo stated, perhaps a little grumpily. His arms were tired from carrying Yanagi and Shirota's shopping all day. Endo didn't see why he had to carry Shirota's shopping as well.
Shirota grinned, sticking his hands in his pockets and rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. "It's been so long since I saw Aibachii! How can I not bask a little?"
"Fine Endo, I'll buy it myself." Yanagi cheerfully picked out a drink and paid for it. "but you owe me something now." Waiting for his drink to be made Yanagi turned to the bouncing Shirota and his minion, aka Endo. "Shirota you're so obvious."
"I wasn't going to buy it for you in the first place, why do I owe you money for something I wasn't going to do?" Endo could never figure out Yanagi's reasoning.
Planting his feet on the ground Shirota pasted on his best serious face. "Obvious? I don't know what you mean Yanagi."
"Because you were supposed to buy it for me Endo." Picking his drink up from the sidebar Yanagi swept out of the Starbucks, making a far better dramatic exit then Shirota could have ever made. "And everyone knows what I mean Shirota."
--
"That's a new shirt." Takki stated in amusement. "Blue instead of pink Aibachii?"
Aiba huffed and took the blue shirt off, carefully setting it aside. "I can wear blue Takki." Aiba'd worn other colors besides pink before! He just happened to like pink. It looked good on him. Then again, so did blue.
Shirota looked good in blue too.
"I'm just saying it's new." Takki raised his hands in defense before hastily backing away when Aiba picked up his hair straightener. Deciding to use Seto for protection against Aiba's wrath, if it was wrath he had incited. Usually it was just bitchiness.
Seto rolled his eyes at their antics. "Shirota-san bought it for him this afternoon." The Seigaku dressing room hushed. Brushing his hair out of his face Aiba fixed his costume before leaving the room.
"I'll let you all gossip as if I'm not here when I'm actually not here." As soon as the door was closed the group erupted into chatter.
--
Nakaguchi Masataka hummed as he shuffled his way down the halls. He still loved his adorable slippers, and they totally matched his Niou outfit. Plus who wanted to put on shoes before you had to? Shoes just cramped your toes and made your feet smell funny. Turning a corner Masa peeked around. "Aiba-chan. What're you hanging out here for?"
"Oh, Masa." Aiba smiled, shrugging delicately. "I'm just waiting for everyon to finish gossiping so I can go fix my make up."
Masa gaped. Gossip? And he was missing it? And *Aiba* was missing it? "Why aren't you in there with them then? Not juicy enough for you?"
Aiba shook his head. "They're gossiping about my new shirt."
"Your new shirt?" Masa laughed. "What about it? It's not scandalous." Aiba shook his head again. Masa could tell something was off about Aiba today, he wasn't primping or posing as he usually did. Then again, the camera for the backstages weren't swinging around their position right now.
"Shirota-san bought it for me." Aiba confided in Masa, though not quietly enough.
"Shirota-san bought you something?" Irei popped up and Aiba jumped, almost hopping into Masa's arms in surprise. "What was it?"
Aiba couldn't help but feel even more embarrassed and put on the spot. Back during Advancement Match Rokkaku Aiba had struggled with his position as the person who was supposed to support everyone. During his struggles and while working with Irei for their duet during detention after detention, and Aiba had despaired that his voice would ever get better, Aiba had confided in the other man about his insecurities. Irei had been really good-natured about it, and had always been extra helpful to Aiba when he could be. Then, during Rikkai's first part, Irei had confessed a small crush on Aiba, feeling the need to clear the air.
It wasn't like Aiba could do anything about that, and in his surprise he'd blurted out that he couldn't accept Irei's feelings, but he understood them, since once he had crushed on Shirota in the same way… It had created an awkward tension between them for a while, but both were professionals and had worked through it. Now they were back to being close costars, if not friends.
"He bought me a shirt." Aiba admitted, and told the attentive actors the whole story. "Then he just walked off. I guess he must have told Seto he ran into me…" Because god knew the D-boys gossiped worse then the Tenimyu boys. Aiba was surprised if half of Tokyo didn't know by the time the performances ended.
"Hmm. A shirt." Irei hid a smile behind a serious expression, though the smile kept breaking through.
"It's not a wedding ring, but I suppose it is something you wear…" Masa stated, suppressing laughter but unable to suppress a smile.
"What?!?" Aiba gaped. "I have no idea what you two mean. I'm… going back in." Opening the door to the Seigaku dressing room Aiba slipped inside and then quickly closed it after him.
"Hmm, he's in denial." Masa nodded sagely. He was in the same situation with Baba currently. But Baba and Aiba were young, they could afford to be in denial a little longer.
"Still, if Shirota-san is coming to tonight's performance a little progress could be made." Irei stated with a grin. The two actors shared a devious glance.
--
Shirota beamed as he bounced backstage. The performance had been awesome! Though watching Aiba grope around helplessly on stage was no fun at all. Aiba put a lot into his performance though! And Shirota swore that his Fuji became prettier every time he saw it.
Still, Shirota kind of wished he could have been on stage for that scene as Tezuka. Shirota had always thought that was an awesome scene in the manga, and unjustly ignored in the anime. He thought Minami was okay, but the scene was definitely pulled off because of Aiba's awesome skills. Shirota just hoped he could get to congratulate Aiba! And maybe take him out somewhere to eat or something. Performances always left you starving after all.
"Shirota-san!" Someone greeted him and Shirota paused, turning to look at the other.
"Tomo! You did great as Kaidoh!"
--
Aiba capped the bottle of make up remover and swiped the last of his eyeliner off. Throwing away the used cotton ball he packaged up his supplies so they weren't over crowding his dressing table. Not that Aiba could avoid overcrowding his table, he had a lot of hair products and those took up quite a bit of space. Ignoring the way Doori kept glancing at him and then turning to Minami and wiggling his eyebrows Aiba grabbed his hat and headed for the door.
Upon sliding it open Aiba jumped back at Shirota's sudden appearance in the doorway.
"Shirota-san! You did come!" Aiba barely noticed Tomo slipping in next to Shirota and hurrying over to confer with Seto.
"I said I would." Shirota grinned and wrapped an arm around Aiba's shoulders leading him out into the hallway. "Hey, are you hungry?"
Stomach growling at the thought of food Aiba nodded. "You know I always am after rehearsals." The warm hand on his shoulder made Aiba smile widely and he paused. "Wait! I want a picture for my blog." Shirota dropped the hand as Aiba pulled out his cellphone.
"We've never posted a picture on your blog together." Shirota stated, his own smile widening.
"I blog more prodigiously now." Shirota's wide smile turned amused as Aiba held out the camera for a photo, the other hand resting on Shirota's shoulder as he leaned in so they could both fit in the shot.
"Ah! Wait!" Someone snatched the phone out of his hand and Masa grinned at the two of them. "I'll take it."
"Thanks?" Aiba made a v-sign as well then, smiling when Masa held the phone up so he could get the best shot. Shirota's smile faded just slightly and he tried hard not to send a possessive look Masa's way.
No matter what Tomo had said, he hadn't asked Aiba out yet, and there was no way of knowing if Aiba returned his feelings.
Though Tomo really sucked at lying, so Aiba probably did. Hearing the electronic click noise that Aiba's camera made when a picture was snapped Shirota dropped his pose and stuck his hands in his pockets.
"Thanks Masa." Aiba plucked the cell phone away, checking the picture himself before slipping it into his pocket. "I'll see you at the next performance." Then Aiba reached out and snagged Shirota's sleeve, tugging him around the other actor and towards the exit of the theatre.
"If we wait too long Shirota-san we're not going to be able to get into the restaurants before they close."
--
"They left already?" Irei frowned, dammit, he had come up with the perfect plan too! "Wait. They left together?"
"Shirota was going to take Aiba out to eat." Tomo stated cheerfully. "They looked really comfortable together."
Figuring he had either been outdone, though being outdone by the innocent Tomo was unthinkable, or that Aiba and Shirota hadn't needed his help after all Irei shrugged. "Oh well. See you tomorrow Tomo."
