Earth was a strange place to Chinen, despite his 14 years of living on it.

Before Earth Chinen had spent several decades on his home planet and then a long interstellar flight which Chinen spent in stasis. He wasn't sure how long his stay on Earth would be, a human lifetime was a short vacation to the people of Chinen's planet. When Chinen was finished on Earth he would return home to report his findings.

 

Earth was an interesting place. Humans were oddly shaped and not as intelligent as they wished to believe. They put so much effort into petty things, competitions that were ultimately pointless. Chinen did not understand it, so when he hit his fifth earth year he had asked his mother to send him to one of the martial arts dojo's around their home. Mother's were a strange concept to Chinen as well. On Chinen's planet you nurtured and cared for the old, but you allowed the young to fend for themselves. Dojo's were strange as well, Chinen was not used to such physical exertion, but he found it enjoyable. Not only that but the boys around Chinen, who were always fighting among each other, reminded Chinen of his year mates back home. They were still petty though, competing against each other constantly even though it was obvious that Kite was the best out of them all.

 

There was something strange about Kite. Chinen was sure the earth word was 'charisma' and Chinen had only felt something similar when meeting with the ruling council. Kite commanded you, and you would be stupid to disobey. It was not as if his threats were harsh, but they were enough to keep everyone in line.

 

Maybe, if Chinen chose to return to his planet early, he would take his team with him.
