Jesse clutched his cross as he sneaked out of his house and down the road. He knew it wasn't wise to be out this late at night. *Knew* it. Still, he knew Cordelia would be at the Bronze tonight and he didn't want to miss a chance to win her over. The *one* night he wasn't there Jesse knew would be the night she wanted him, so he showed up all the time.
"Gotcha." Came a familiar feminine voice as an arm shot out of the shadows to grab him and he let out a frightened squeak as his favorite multi striped shirt was used to pull him into the dark alleyway. "And you're not getting away this time Geek boy."
"Let. Him. Go." Jesse froze as he was swiftly swung around and held against the wall. Standing at the center of the alley was Sandy, brown glasses sitting on that small bump in his nose with his serious brown eyes glinting behind them. In one hand he held a stake at just the right angle to dust a vampire and in the other he held the cross Xander had given him up high. Somehow the .... weird stranger had managed to get the spiraled wood creation to fit his grip almost perfectly. Jesse, now reminded of his own weapon shoved the cross into he blonde's face. The vampiress hissed and quickly twisted his wrist so he had to drop it. Jesse let out a startled hiss at the pain and Sandy took a step forward, his determination plain on his face.
Sandy was sporting Willow's resolve face.
Shit.
Bad things happened when Sandy wore the 'resolve face'. Things got broken. People got broken.
"I said let him go." Darla sneered at the human. He wasn't nearly fast enough to... The master vampiress grunted as the attack hit, his stake coming frighteningly close to her heart, her quick reflexes the only thing saving her. She was forced to drop her captive though and he scampered behind his savior. Pitiful.
"Go home Jesse. I'm right behind you." And the boy, Jesse, scampered off leaving Sandy to face off against a dangerous opponent alone.
"You're too fast for a normal human, what are you?" She started to circle her prey while he tried to make sure she stayed in front of him and he had an escape route. Foolish. Darla shifted into game face and sniffed. "Not a witch or a warlock. No mage either. No scent of wolf or any other animal." Her golden eyes glowed, "Some sort of half-breed?" and the fight was on.
It was not until Darla's nails drew blood that she knew what this boy was, his blood contained the mingled scents of life and death, youth and old age, a mixture of two races, Human and Vampire. "A dhampire? Oh you are a fit creature for the master's care." And Darla joined the battle in earnest.

The next day Jesse showed up at the library during his study break and asked the librarian if he had seen Sandy. Giles shook his head and Jesse left to question the girls. After dodging hallway trafic and taking five seconds to flirt with a scoffing Cordelia he found Buffy and Willow chatting amiablly at their lunch table. "Ladies! Have either of you seen the dark and mysterious Sandy?" Both girls shook their heads and Jesse slumped onto the table.
"Cause neither have I."
--------------------------------------------------------------
Jesse was a terrible liar so it wasn't long before the girls had the whole story out of him. And that was why he was sitting in the library listening to Giles berate them while Buffy gathered stakes.
"He's most likely a vampire by now." Xander spoke from the shadows, subtly appearing in his cool new 'vampire, master' way. He so totally rocked. In his mind, in a small quiet corner, Jesse agreed with Xander's unvoiced comments. Doing a quick drool check Jesse, Willow and Buffy then gave Xander their full attention.
"A vampire? Why..." Willow started and faltered at Xander's comforting hand on her shoulder. Stifling the breif spark of jealousy, the kind that Jesse usually only got around Willlow and Sandy, Jesse gave a small cough. Xander spared him a glance but continued.
"Because he's close to the Slayer. They expect you to come looking. They'll be waiting for it."
"So what?!?! We should just, like, abandon him? No Way Mister!" Buffy reacted without thinking beginning to stalk out. Her blonde hair fluttering around her angry visage.
"No." Xander's voice was firm and commanding, managing to stop Buffy in her tracks. "No, we go and get him. However, don't go in like an outcast of 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly'. We go in with a plan."
