Jun. 8th, 2007 06:10 pmSo. I finished Melusine by Sarah Monette today. I really like her work and now I want Virtu! Except I'm pretty sure it's not out in paperback yet. I do like her style and stuff but what really irritates me is her inability to develop relationships. >_< Introducing an established relationship is FINE I have no issue with that. It's the girl meets boy and suddenly BAM they're dating and then BAM they're having issues and BAM someone's dead and I'm like @_@ 'huh'? Or the two brothers meeting and clicking. I like having brotherly contact. But it's the fact that all the sudden the younger brother KNOWS how the older brother is going to react to things and references to his saner days when all we really see is the insanity of it all.
Also her character's genders confuse me. >_< I don't mean I think they're transvestites or anything it's just.... when Tan first linked me to Virtu and I read Mildmay's opening sequence I thought he was a girl. The character just didn't feel masculine to me. And when Felix is talking to Shannon in the beginning of Melusine, despite use of masculine pronouns, I thought Shannon was a girl. It's not just the names, some characters just don't feel like boys!
