Some days Oshitari felt like a two bit hack.

It wasn’t that he doubted his skills, he was the ‘man of a thousand techniques’. Oshitari knew he had talent, he just felt no need to flex those muscles all the time. Usually Oshitari was fine playing with his ability to read opponents and Fuji Syuusuke’s higuma otoshi. Fuji Syuusuke had created the technique, Oshitari had simply copied it, he had his own techniques, but why unveil them when Fuji’s own move worked so well. Plus having the crowd shout ‘higuma otoshi’ in such awed tones did wonders for the ego.

Still, there were days where Oshitari felt like he was merely a second rate tensai. Fudomine’s Ibu Shinji, while nowhere near Oshitari’s skill level, at least had his own signature move. Ibu’s ‘spot’ was an effective use of Ibu’s skill and his opponents weakness. Even Marui Bunta, who was a self proclaimed tensai, the crowds had only picked it up after Marui declared his genius, had his volleying.

Some days Oshitari felt like he had nothing at all. His ability to play both doubles and singles was nothing special, and he couldn’t claim that Gakuto and he were a one of a kind doubles pair. Oshitari wasn’t even the only member of his family to play tennis. Kenya’s own team had made it farther into the Nationals then Hyotei had. A fact which Kenya was always quick to point out.

Ah well, if nothing else, Oshitari had his glasses.

Of course they were, like most of him, fake.
