As far as rituals go, the ritual of binding a vampire to the head of the Vongola is fairly simplistic. It involves the usual chanting, magic bindings, a sealed circle, and of course bloodletting. But not as much bloodletting as one might think, not as much as was called when you summoned a demon. In fact one could use the amount of blood contained in a chicken for the ceremony and have plenty to spare.
Hibari's eyes were flat and dull, and it hurt Dino inside. This entire thing hurt and it was not just because the magic of the ceremony was designed to hold a vampire's power back.
Dino'd never wanted this for Hibari. He had wanted to shepherd Hibari through his coming of age, to keep the blood lust under control, to present all the choices and possibilities and dangers to Hibari and let the young man come to his own decision. He had wanted there to be a decision, even if Hibari had already half-sort of- not really- agreed to join the Vongola. There were other choices. Vampire clans who would have taken Hibari in, secret societies in other countries, Dino's own clan…
Dino just wished that Hibari had been able to make the choice.
The seal on the Sin is opened and Dino's nostrils flare at the sharp smell of that blood. His mouth waters and he remembers how good Shimon blood tasted, how ripe and full. It had been like Dino's first glass of really good wine, once he had learned how to distinguish the bad from the good. Dino can see the hunger for blood in the lines of Hibari's body, and Hibari leans towards the edge of the black drawn circle, pulling towards the blood.
Tsuna grips Hibari's chin, a dangerous undertaking, and pulls.
One drop of Shimon blood falls on Hibari's tongue.
The muscles in Hibari's face go slack, and the rest of Hibari's body follows. If not for Tsuna's hand on his chin and magic Hibari would be lying on the floor like a rag doll. Dino can remember that feeling too, the loss of self, the loss of control. Dino can remember a lot of things, like the soft touch of his master's hands as they carded through his hair and the cruel drag of his maker's nails. He remembers the taste, sour, of the vampire who made him and he remembers the taste of Giotto's blood when he was bound to the Vongola's Primo.
It's not a binding that counts any longer, but Dino still honors it.
A drop of blood hangs from Tsuna's finger, dimpled from the pin prick. To Dino it seems like an eternity before it falls an splashes on the rough contours of Hibari's tongue. Hibari swallows, and his eyes actually focus. He doesn't appear… well, he doesn't appear angrier than usual. He does, however, look hungry.
"I want to do this," Tsuna is saying to Reborn, who looks decidedly against the idea, and then Tsuna offers his bare wrist (bare wrist!) to Hibari. Hibari, still bound by magic, moves like the air is molasses, he bends his head forward and bares his teeth.
But he bites into the skin of Tsuna's wrist lightening quick.
Dino can hear Tsuna's guardians shout, and knows they gather around Tsuna, and he knows that Tsuna is warning them off. He is getting a feel for the command of Hibari, and that first bite is crucial. If Tsuna had not offered it… Hibari would have fed and fed and fed but never been full. Dino hopes Tsuna understands what he is getting into now, that while other blood may fill Hibari's stomach and keep his vampiric body on the go nothing but Tsuna's blood will ever really satisfy him.
And it is only Tsuna's blood that Hibari will not be able to take by force. There is a reason that many vampires find the act of bonding vampires to be too dangerous an act to consider. A bonded vampire who is not fed properly is just as bad as a half mad halfling.
