kat8chaPhysically, Kite hadn't moved, mentally he was stretched across town, brushing the edges of Itsuki's shields. Itsuki's poor defenses wouldn't have stood a chance if Kite wasn't as far away as he was. The volume of Itsuki's shout and the way Kite had felt it brush against his mind meant that Itsuki had probably alerted anyone he had a good psychic report with. That meant that Rokkaku was, ostensibly, not going to cooperate.
Kite flipped open his communicator and opened a channel to Tanishi. Tanishi answered immediately, panic lurking around his eyes. "Tanishi. What happened?"
"He just… burst out of the room." Tanishi cleared his throat. "He surprised us. Shiranui and Aragaki are-"
"Call them back." Kite snapped. Tanishi blinked and Kite bit back another furious cold statement. As it was his tone was icy fresh. "Contact Chinen, tell him we're moving into stage two." Kite ended the contact with Tanishi and frowned. He was far enough away from Hyotei's main building that they would not be able to sense his mind anymore, but that meant any attempt to contact his cousin mentally would lead to trouble.
Snarling slightly Kite opened up an audio only channel on his communication device. The device buzzed for a few seconds before Hiyoshi answered.
"What?"
"We're moving onto stage two, Wakashi."
A second of stunned silence. Hiyoshi would know something had gone wrong, and in any other situation he would have mocked Kite. Hiyoshi though had a vital part to play in stage two.
"This better be worth it." Hiyoshi cut the call off. Kite tucked his communicator away and frowned.
Worth it? Of course it would be. Kite never had any doubt. Though it was a pity about losing Itsuki.
And where had Kai been while Itsuki was escaping?
