kat8chaSo, I've been rereading some Anita Blake recently. I reread Bloody Bones and remembered why I loved the series before the sex started. Bloody Bones was, if I remember things right, my first Anita Blake novel. I really fell for the series after reading it. There are points though, when sex begins to get involved, that I want to shoot Anita.
In Blue Moon we feel the need to define 'Top' and 'Bottom' several times in the book. I'm not sure if this is because Anita is just clueless about sex, which she is, LKH's tendency to repeat things because she forgot she wrote them, or if LKH honestly does not think that people reading her novel would know what 'top' and 'bottom' meant when it came to D/s sex. Aren't top and bottom terms that are pretty self explanatory? I could see why they might warrant a description but... how many people in the world would not understand what they meant when it came to BDSM?
In Narcissus in Chains, where the sex starts to become prevalent, Anita keeps needing things about sex explained to her. There's actually a point where Jean Claude mentions what I assume to be double penetration. Now, when I first read this book, I'm not sure I got the DP reference. That made me think 'does a normal person not get some of the things hinted at in these books? Do they need things explained to them? How many people wouldn't know what a top or bottom is, etc...'
At which point I pointed at myself and said 'PERVERT'. It's stamped on my forehead, I swear. I actually think I had a dream last night where I was making dirty innuendo but instead of telling everyone the innuendo I was like 'I could say something... but I won't.' And since my friends all know I'm thinking dirty innuendo when I say that... Yeah, strange dream.
