Itsuki frowned as his hands closed around the handle of a cookie filled wicker basket
. “Now take this basket of goodies straight to Ojii, Little Red Riding Shirt, and don’t dally.”
Glancing up at Saeki, Itsuki cocked his head to the side. The logical part of him was wondering why Saeki was in a dress, but the logical part also knew that this was all a dream. “Why?”
Saeki smoothed his checkered apron down and made an exasperated face at Itsuki, the same exasperated face Itsuki’s real mother made when he began asking questions. “Because Ojii had a run in with the big bad wolf and is not feeling very well!”
Itsuki peeked at the basket of cookies before pulling out a checkered kerchief, from where he didn’t know, and covering them up. Glancing up at Saeki Itsuki frowned again. “But why am I Little Red Riding Shirt?”
Saeki reached over and adjusted the popped collar of Itsuki’s red shirt. “Because you’re wearing a red shirt, and that is the way these stories go.”
Itsuki checked, and yes, he was definitely wearing a red shirt. In fact he was wearing his old Rokkaku uniform.
“Now off you go!” Saeki turned Itsuki around, and pushed him out the door. “And you watch out for the Big Bad Wolf.”
As was the way of dreams Itsuki took a few steps forward, and was suddenly on the path in the woods. Itsuki shrugged and kept on walking.
Soon there was a rustling noise behind him. Looking back Itsuki saw nothing there, and continued on his walk to Ojii’s.
Then, another rustle. Turning quickly Itsuki caught a fleeting glimpse of something purple disappearing into the bushes.
Continuing down the path Itsuki tried to calm his breathing. What was the best way to deal with things like this? Oh, singing generally helped. “Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf, the Big Bad Wollf, the Big Bad Wolf… Who’s afraid of the…” Itsuki sang softly, his pace increasing slightly with each step until he was nearly running. Hearing branches rustling right behind him Itsuki whirled around.
“Shoooooo….o…” Itsuki’s battle snort whistled out into nothingness as he faced an empty path yet again. Checking the cookies to make sure he hadn’t spilled any Itsuki turned back around, “Oof,” and found himself face to face with a purple covered chest.
Glancing up Itsuki looked into amused golden eyes, barely hidden behind a pair of glasses. “Sorry?”
“It’s no trouble, Little Red Riding Shirt, I was hoping to bump into you.” The Big Bad Wolf licked his lips. “There are all sorts of dangerous creatures in the woods, you know.”
“Like you!” Itsuki pointed a finger at the wolf and sprung away, clutching the basket of cookies to his chest. Or, Itsuki would have been clutching the basket of cookies if the Big Bad Wolf had not somehow relieved him of his burden.
“I’m just misunderstood.” The wolf hefted the basket in one hand and motioned ahead of himself with the other. “Shall we?”
Sullenly Itsuki let the Wolf help him carry the basket to Ojii’s house. “Thank you.” Itsuki took the basket from the wolf, surprised when the Wolf passed it over so willingly. Maybe the Wolf really was misunderstood. “Now you can go.”
Turning to face the door Itsuki put on a cheery face and knocked.
And knocked.
And knocked once again!
Giving Ojii a few seconds more Itsuki shifted nervously before reaching his hand up to knock one more time.
“Maybe you should go check on him.” The Wolf said, with a decidedly wolfish grin.
Not liking that grin at all Itsuki pushed open the door. “Ojii?” Walking into the house Itsuki set the cookies down on the kitchen table and peered around. “Ojii?” Still no response, but no sign of Ojii either, and no note. Ojii had probably just gone out.
“Check the bedroom.” The Wolf murmured into Itsuki’s ear. Itsuki squeaked and jumped away. Itsuki had not liked the way the Wolf’s hot, damp breath had sent a chill down his spine.
“W-why!?”
The Wolf pushed up his glasses. “Maybe he is asleep. Or crawled in there because he was hurt.”
Making an ‘o’ of realization, Itsuki headed for the bedroom. “Ojii?” Pushing open the door Itsuki was actually glad to find the bedroom empty. At least Ojii wasn’t hurt. Ojii must have just stepped out.
“Oh Little Red Riding Shirt…” The Wolf was again right behind Itsuki, but this time the Wolf also placed hands on Itsuki’s shoulders to keep him from jumping away. “Your shirt is riding up.”
Itsuki squeaked again when his shirt was suddenly pulled up over his head and tossed away. Itsuki backed away from the lascivious Wolf, backpedaling straight on top of the bed. The Wolf smirked, crawling on top of him.
“Why… What?” Itsuki’s head was spinning, and the world was fading out around him, he must be waking up.
Kite hovered over him in the dream. “Because I’m the big bad wolf, and I’m going to eat you right up.”
Glancing up at Saeki, Itsuki cocked his head to the side. The logical part of him was wondering why Saeki was in a dress, but the logical part also knew that this was all a dream. “Why?”
