Tezuka’s demolished Shishigaku in straight sets, and Chitose is lounging against the fence.
Miyuki hesitates for a second by Chitose’s side before rushing over to Tezuka.
“Theif bro! That was fantastic!”
“…” Tezuka glances at Chitose, a brief glimmer of recognition no doubt from last years nationals. “Ah. I have played better.”
Shishigaku looks, almost, like they’re going to launch at Tezuka, but they remain on the ground where Tezuka left them.
“That was so cool.” Miyuki keeps chattering on, moving from talking about how cool it was to describing Tezuka’s form and begging for him to give her some lessons.
Chitose ambles his way over to Daimaru, nudging Daimaru with his foot until the panting captain rolls over. Crouching down over Daimaru Chitose grins amiably. “Yo, vice-captain, remember me?”
“I’m a captain now!” Daimaru splutters, the blood draining from his face. “Back off Chitose.”
Chitose doesn’t move and his smile doesn’t change, but something makes Daimaru stiffen. Maybe it was the note moving bit. “Hey, Daimaru. You know, you touch my sister again…” Leaning closer Chitose lowers his voice just a little, “And I break all your fingers.”
Hopping up from his crouched position isn’t easy on geta, but Chitose makes it look like it is. “Later.” Ambling over to the net Chitose smiles with half-lidded eyes at Tezuka. “I’ll see you at Nationals.” Then Chitose switches his smile to Miyuki, “And I’ll see you at home.”
