Feb. 15th, 2009 03:20 pmToday was just one of those moments where I went 'why is it okay to charge for art, but if you charged for fanfic people would bitch you out?'
I mean, I realize that art you have the paper, and the markers/pencils/pens/water colors/whatever supplies you use. And it takes time, so even though some fanfic writers invest AGES of time into their fanfic, it's not the same as investing a ton of time into a piece of art. Is it b/c we're such a visual society and don't consider writing to be a true art form? (Trust me, creative writing? NOT considered an art. Even though it is.)
It's not even artists making you pay for just shipping and handling and the paper and a fraction of what their materials cost. They DO generally make money off of it, even if it's just a little. And one of the things I learned to put in disclaimers was 'I do not make money off of this'.
Just one of my pet peeves I guess. >>;;; Or me being jealous b/c I can't charge for my work. Bah. Whatever.
