Jun. 8th, 2008 11:52 pmOkay, first off?
FLIST. READ MORE. :D
Second, go read Shadow Unit. Ho god. I'm in love.
I found it because I was looking for Sarah Monette work, as I've eaten through all the Kushiel books (Jackqueline Carey) that are currently out and my books won't come until Monday/Tuesday. (One - The Bone Key, Sarah Monette's, the other Flesh and Spirit, Carol Berg's) I read Monette's Melusine and The Virtu (I'm writing for paperback of Mirador) and her co-authorship with Companions to Wolves. All of these were books suggested to me by Tan, and all of them I suggest to you. (For one thing if you're looking for good fantasy with homo-eroticism you don't have a lot to pick from.) Anyway, starved for Monette's work b/c I hate waiting for books and I didn't know my local bookstore wouldn't have it (because I have SEEN it there before) until I checked... I stalked for experts and such. I found Shadow Unit.
Note, It's the brainchild of Emma Bull who I'm going to have to read simply b/c Shadow Unit is PHENOMENAL. It was apparently inspired b/c Elizabeth Bear (who I am going to need to read more of too) prompted her professional writer friends to write fanfic to rediscover the joy of writing. Emma Bull did it, and got bit in the ass by the plotbunny for Shadow Unit. If you like Crime Dramas it will be an interesting read for you, maybe not too intense but you could totally imagine watching that type of thing on TV. It's good, and I like the SciFi plot and the human focus.
Also, they have a Fanfiction policy. I doubt I'd be able to write anything good for it, but any writers who encourage fanficcers get A+++ in my book.
I totally want to like... meet these people now. ><;;; I'm sad.
