The bridge was awash with tension, the anxiety and anger almost visible. You couldn't have cut through the stress with a knife. It was times like these that Sengoku was absurdly glad he was not the least bit receptive to psychic waves. Not that he was a dead zone or completely without psychic powers, he projected well enough, he just didn't receive. A bit like a broken radio, including the static.

"Hey, hey, hey." Sengoku held up his hands defensively. When he spoke up Kite moved from glaring at Minami (and Higashikata who had wrapped a protective arm around Minami's shoulders) to looking at Sengoku. It was kind of funny how protective Kite was of his cousin, considering it was his fault that his cousin was in this mess in the first place. Seriously, Hiyoshi was lucky to get out of killing Atobe alive, much less without a HUGE intergalactic bounty on his head.

Except there probably was one, just because of circumstantial evidence. Sengoku should check.

"There is." Aragaki, one of the quiet forgettable Higa types, spoke up. "I'm sure Rikkai is finding that out right now."

Sengoku nodded. See, projecting was a good thing sometimes! Saved asking those awkward questions. Like briefs or boxers…

Kite rubbed at his temples. "Is there a point to all of this mental meandering or are you just keeping me from killing your captain?" Which Kite had been about to do because Minami wanted to cut their losses and run.

"There's a point." Sengoku couldn't help but sound defensive. JUST because his stream of consciousness was a LITTLE on the lackadaisical side… "I don't think Rikkai's interested in breaking Hiyoshi for information, if they were we would probably be arrested already. Plus, Rikkai's backers and the Hyotei organization have always been at odds. Psychics are pretty territorial, and Rikkai owns a CHUNK of trading stations and has planet side contacts that Hyotei wanted. With Atobe dead I'm sure Rikkai has been trying to advance their holdings…"

"So the Rikkai psychics would be more interested in the information and tactical advantage Wakashi could give them." Kite nodded. "Instead of pursuing space pirates."

"Right!" Psychics were so quick. It was why Sengoku loved Kirihara. Besides the biting. "Hyotei also is really, really, really secretive about their empaths. They collect them and train them and keep them to themselves, so no one really knows how to handle them. Rikkai would probably be interested in the information…"

"We just need to convince Rikkai that Wakashi is more useful as a cooperative subject than an incarcerated one." Kite nodded again, his immaculately manicured hair moving with his head. "And convince Wakashi too."

"It's one less mouth to feed." Sengoku told Minami, who's face said plain and clear that he did not like this plan. "We can leave him here, it's not like he was really a ship boy to begin with." Kid got space sick, how sad was that?

The door swung open and Akutsu walked in, a shining ball held carefully (which for Akutsu meant it was DANGEROUS) in his left hand. His right hand pulled one of his cigarettes from his mouth and crushed it against the wall. "I've got the answer to your prayers, fuckers."
