"Is that what I think it is?" Aragaki leaned close to the shining ball. Akutsu jerked it away from Aragaki to hold it protectively against his chest.
"It is, isn't it." Shiranui leaned over Aragaki. "It's a thought bomb."
"Stop BREATHING on it." Akutsu snapped, holding it above their heads. He barely managed this because Shiranui was almost as tall as he was. Minami and Higashikata exchanged questioning glances before both looked at Kite to see if he knew what they were talking about. Kite's arms were crossed over his chest, but his fingers had twitched and tightened their hold on his elbows.
To those who knew him tell they could tell Kite was excited.
"A thought bomb could work." Chinen stated, taking the glowing ball from Akutsu's hand. "But I was under the impression they were all destroyed by Hyotei."
Questioning glances were exchanged around the bridge, some knowing, some clueless.
"They can't destroy what they don't know exists." Akutsu took a long drag on his cigarette. "We ran weapons for Fudomine back in the day."
Minami looked like he had been hit by a truck and he slapped himself in the forehead. "They gave us half a case of those. Their top secret weapon against Hyotei."
Duh.
"That's right." Akutsu said with a sneer. He stubbed his cigarette out on the wall. "And we can use it to fuck with Rikkai."
"They're not empaths." Kai said and then he glanced at Kite. "They say they're not anyway."
"They have empathic abilities." Kite shrugged. "But they're suppressed. And Rikkai psychics generally shield. Shields will protect most psychics from a thought bomb. Unless they're extremely empathic."
"Which Rikkai aren't." Rin snorted and crossed his arms over his chest.
"But Wakashi is." Kite said, his voice and thoughts ice cold. The bridge became quiet. A thought bomb would do no more than knock Hiyoshi out, but it was still attacking one of their own, and it was technically a terrorist action. It could end very badly for the ship.
It was a risky maneuver, and none of them were sure what the whole plan was.
"Uh." Dan piped up from the corner he had been hiding in. "I don't know if it helps… but I hear St. Rudolph's emissaries are docking here today."
And that was when the plan came together.
