The thing about repressed memories is that they're only repressed. A shock, or a trigger, will bring those memories roaring back to the surface. Repressed memories are always trying to get out.
Shouichi has dreams. They're not terribly scary or terribly memorable but they are repetitive. He dreams he's standing in front of a door. Except it isn't HIM standing in front of the door but at the same time it is. It's dream logic, he can be there and not be there at the same time. It is like the logic of there being one door but Shouichi knows that the one door is actually a million doors.
All the doors are locked. But here's the thing, even though there are millions of locks and doors there is only one key. He doesn't know what the key looks like but Shouichi knows that whoever is trying to open the door is looking for the key. Sometimes when Shouichi overlaps with the dream persona to stand in front of the door, Shouichi knows where the key is.
He forgets when he wakes up.
Shouichi doesn't understand that when he dreams of the door someone else also dreams the same dream.

Byakuran dreams a dream of a locked door that is really a metaphor for a million locked doors. He knows what they represent because he knows what he has been locked away from. Byakuran can no longer access the other worlds that he was able to access, he can no longer see through the eyes of his brethren. The snippets of knowledge he occasionally receives are short, hazy, and painful. He knows something now blocks his way.
Someone locked the door.
But it was a locked door to begin with that was unlocked through means Byakuran can procure again. At least, he thinks he can, except eh can't remember what unlocked the door in the first place.
So he dreams that he is standing before a locked door, but in his hands is the key. Except he can never see they key and sometimes the key is not there. Sometimes it is just him and the locked door and a voice like the wind whispering treasonous slanders and lies.
Sometimes in the dream Byakuran hears other voices. A man's voice, and a young girl's. Sometimes the voices speak to him.
Byakuran never remembers what they say when he wakes up.
