When Sawada returns, reappears in front of him in a puff of smoke with all of his friends at his back, Shouichi feels the cool touch of control leave him. Sawada is looking at him, sad, and angry, and remorseful, too many emotions for one teenage boy's eyes to convey. Shouichi is also a teenage boy, and so he is good at repressing, but he cannot hold back. "I AM SO SORRY. I couldn't…"
It all spills out of him then, the cool touch of hands on his wrists, the way the chill had possessed him, had made him pick up the ten year bazooka, use the rings and boxes he had gotten in the mail… Shouichi had not understood was he was doing, had no CONTROL of it, and Shouichi has no control of the torrent of words spilling out of his mouth, explaining, begging for forgiveness.
Except that he does.
Shouichi does not tell Sawada, who's face has softened, and become a little confused, about the first ghostly touch to the sole of his foot, tickling his arch. The first chill touch had startled Shouichi out of a nightmare, about Sawada, and right out of his futon. Shouichi does not tell Sawada of how the touches grew from this one, how Shouichi had accepted them, how there had been times when it was not just hands, but also ghostly chill lips, and the press of a cool chest against his back as cold arms pressed him into a hug. If Shouichi had known that the cold touch would possess him and make him do… something… Shouichi would have tried to shake the touch off, would have sought someone out.
Shouichi does not tell Sawada and his friends about this, but something inside of him says that they know anyway.
Shouichi feels so hot without the cool touch, so lonely without his 'ghostly' companion. 'Byakuran' is the name Sawada gives him, to explain the touch, to go along with Sawada's utterly confusing story of time travel and a future that will no longer exist. Shouichi nods, follows along, pretends he understands…
He does, partly. The bits about time travel Shouichi understands, and the concept of the boxes (he has played with the things he received in the mail after all, with the ghostly touches help and without it) but Shouichi feels that Sawada is leaving things out, glossing things over. Why would 'Byakuran' control him? HOW would Byakuran control him, if Byakuran existed in a time 10 years after Shouichi's.
Shouichi does not understand, he feels hot, overheated. He misses the cool pressure of a hand against the back of his neck, the ghostly tease of fingers along the inside of his wrist.
