Inui has a theory. Granted, he always has theories, and this theory is just a slightly newer theory in a long line of theories, and it’s not even a particularly original theory since many of the other tennis players in Tokyo have similar theories. Inui’s theory is that Yukimura uses mind control to turn perfectly normal, and occasionally slightly insane, tennis players into a harem. It explains, perhaps, why the team obeys his every order without hesitation, when they would have made trouble with anyone else.

“Sadaharu.” Yanagi appeared from behind Inui’s left shower, 6 seconds later then Inui had thought he would. Something must have held him up. “Yukimura says you’ve been staring at him again.”

“He’s a fascinating case study.” Inui claims, closing up his notebook. He’s barely written in it except for a few symbols that he knows mean ‘no new data gathered’.

“You should come join us.” Yanagi states, nodding down at the tennis courts where Rikkai’s tennis team practices tirelessly, “Yukimura would welcome a new team member.”

Inui knows. In fact, if he started going to tennis practice regularly there was a 34% chance that he would join the regulars, and Yukimura’s inner circle, in less then two months. “There is a 86% chance that you know my reasoning.”

Renji reaches over and slips the notebook out of Inui’s hands, carefully tucking it under one arm. Inui does not try to retrieve it. “There is a 100% chance that you are being a fool.”

“Ah.” Inui pushes his glasses up. “I’ll see you tomorrow, kyoju.” It would be hard to miss seeing Renji, as he and Inui not only share a schedule but are lab partners in Pyshics.

“Stop holding onto yesterday, hakase.” Yanagi’s voice is amused, and tired, and maybe just a little cynical. Inui wants to tell him that he’s not holding onto the past, that every time he studies Yukimura he is not comparing him to Tezuka. Inui could deny that he has a list of pros and cons sitting in the drawer of his desk, debating whether continuing at Seigaku would be worth it. Renji, however, would know he was lying. Would in fact, steal Inui’s cellphone and show him the nightly calls to Germany.

Inui watches Renji reappear at Yukimura’s side, and the quick conversation that takes place between the two before Yukimura is instructing Niou Masaharu on something. Inui brings out another notebook as he walks away.

Definitely mind control.
