Our next stop on this marvelous mystery tour that is K8's shipping we have a stop at Chiquita! ~does a tropical dance~
Anyone who ships Chitose/Tachibana KNOWS they're made for each other. Anyone who doesn't ship Chitose/Tachibana either hasn't read that far in the manga, or is clueless. I have an icon for that you know. ~points up~ Firstiff, Chitose is a hippy, he's a laid back hippy. But Tachibana fires him up. Then there's Tachibana who gets violent, I don't know if he was always violent before Fudomine, but even at Fudomine he gets pumped up about things he thinks are worth it. They add oil to each other's fire and are constantly pushing each other to be better. (And I claim they switch on who tops too. Probably decided in sweaty rough wrestling matches.) At Shishigaku they were best friends (and totally more!) until Tachibana went a little too far.
During a practice match Tachibana, probably wanting to show off, whacked Chitose in the eye with a tennis ball. This blinded Chitose and is where Tachibana's great big change began.
Tachibana *quits Tennis* because of what he did to Chitose. Sure, you figure he'd be sorry about it, but quitting tennis? He could have just moved to Tokyo. XD
Then Tachibana joins Fudomine's tennis team, but not until AFTER he learns (either from An or the same place An heard from) that Chitose is playing tennis again. Tachibana never set himself up to save Fudomine's team.
The teacher just really pissed him off. And the first years were OBVIOUSLY better tennis players then their seniors. Anyway, we know how Fudomine's story goes. They make it to Nationals... and this is where Chitose comes in.
And we all go 'WHO IS THIS MASKED MAN?' er... geta wearing hippy. XD And why does he call Tachibana by his *given name*. :O Of course Tachibana calls Chitose by his family name, but that's probably just because he's being an ass. Chitose has recovered! Enough to challenge Tachibana! And Tachibana totally thinks that's hot. It's hiswet dreams come true!
This is also where hair theory comes in. Look up at the picture above. Tachibana? Still has black hair.
Tachibana got rid of ALL that pretty hair (and obviously growing it that long had to be purposeful) to atone for Chitose. Note, that's moving to a different city, quitting tennis, and shaving his head. Though, he did near blind Chitose, as stupid as Chitose thinks this atonement shit is. Anyway...
Chitose reappears and when Fuji shows up to play Tachibana...
Tachibana is died, or bleached, or he got rid of the black die. Anyway. He's changed his hair. Why? There's no reason for him to. Nothing except for the fact that he *saw Chitose*. He had to have put effort into it too, either to get rid of the black die, or to bleach it.
Then there's the match.
Look at that eye fucking. And the flirting. Tachibana's WORRIED but at the same time he wants this match like no one's business.
Tachibana gets more fired up for this match then ANYTHING. He got fired up for Fuji sure, but still wasn't the same as he's fired up now. Even Chitose is surprised.
Chitose is TOTALLY turned on. Every hair on his body. *Every hair*.
Tachibana.... you're SILLY. XD Chitose doesn't want you to do all of this, it's clear from the way he scratches his head that he totally doesn't get his boyfriend's need for atonement. Chitose has also been holding back though. He's never used his pinnacle of wisdom... because he knows he'd need Kippei as his opponent to prompt him to do it.
Now, if Tachibana had decided to be lame, he could have aimed for the blind spot several times over and won. But he didn't, because Tachibana is honorable, they were screwed over anyway, and hey, Tachibana *likes* Chitose. ^_~ A lot. ^_~
Sure, the pairing doesn't have a LOT of work to it's name, but we do have a couple really awesome stories about Chitose/Tachibana. And while I have yet to get my hands on a doujinshi of Chitose/Tachibana vampy18 has a doujin up of it here. It also has inspired some WICKED fanart.
