"We need to find Niou a doubles partner." Was what Sanada said when he walked into Yukimura's classroom. Yukimura glanced up from writing out a practice schedule, and several of the students lingering in the classroom whether for more study time or because of after school activities also glanced over. Sanada glared at the other students, and they quickly looked away.
"A partner?" Yukimura clicked his mechanical pencil and pressed it against the desk so that the lead slid back inside, then he set the pencil down. "What about Renji? He and Niou work well together."
Sanada stepped up to Yukimura's desk and glowered. Yukimura tipped his head back and smiled, utterly unimpressed. After a second Sanada dropped his hat (the hat Yukimura had forbid him to wear most of the time) and showed off his new hair. Cobalt blue, a color Sanada hated. In fact, it was a color Sanada loathed.
"Ah." Yukimura's smile was now edged with teeth. "So Renji thinks so too."
Sanada grunted and tugged his hat back on. "Marui and Jackal are joined at the hip. Renji doesn't bother to reel Niou in," in fact, Renji seemed to *enjoy* Niou's pranks which was infuriating and annoying. Of course, Renji was never the butt of Niou's practical jokes. Niou wasn't that suicidal. "He needs a foil."
Yukimura tapped at his chin with his finger. "Well. What about our Kirihara?" Since Kirihara had joined the team and gained a modicum of respect Yukimura had taken to referring to him, but only when in the company of Sanada and Yanagi, as 'our Kirihara'.
Sanada twitched. "You know that Niou would take advantage of that. And Kirihara would…" Sanada thought about the third year that Kirihara had trashed yesterday because Niou had been teasing him and the boy had built up way too much energy and anger. Niou. Needed. A partner.
"I see your point." Yukimura stretched his arms into the air, and then began gathering up his things. "Well, let's go see Yagyuu."
Sanada frowned, but accepted it, taking his place at Yukimura's side as they walked through the hallways. Yagyuu had joined the club earlier last year, but his role as chairman of the public morals committee took precedence. He trained, he played extremely good tennis, but he was not on the regulars. Niou, if he could keep out of trouble, would be on the regulars by the end of the year. Still, Yukimura had a way with these things. And Yagyuu would probably be able to keep Niou in check.
…probably.
Yukimura knocked on the public morals committee's door before opening it perfunctorily. "Yagyuu-kun." Yukimura smiled, Yagyuu was the last one in the room, gathering up papers and placing them in his bag. "Are you ready to join the tennis team full time?"
Yagyuu looked at the two of them standing in the door, and then adjusted his glasses. "Has something come up?"
Yukimura smiled brightly. "Niou's all ready for you now. Have at him."
Sanada turned to frown at Yukimura. Ready? Had they been waiting on Niou? Yagyuu pulled a stack of papers back out of his bag and walked over towards Sanada and Yukimura. Handing over the stack, which turned out to be a list of grievances against Niou, Yagyuu nodded.
"I will be at practice tomorrow. See you then."
