Too Cheer Whisper Up

Sanada was only 3 when he met Yukimura. Yukimura’s parents had just moved into the neighborhood and so they had set up a play date for the boys. Then, while the adults sipped tea and made polite conversation, Yukimura and Sanada poked at each other. Quite literally too.

“Ow!” Sanada gave the strange blue haired boy his best glare. He was practicing it so that it looked like the one his grandmother gave grandfather when she was upset. It seemed to work so very well on grandfather after all. The strange boy wasn’t cowed though.

“You touched my private parts.” He hissed unhappily, moving away from Sanada and crossing his arms. Yukimura was not used to playing with other children. In fact he preferred to spend time alone in his room with his toys and books. He was a smart child, and already had a selection of books that he could read. They were simple books but Yukimura knew he had to start small. Soon enough he’d be reading Daddy’s big novels with ease.

“I did not.” Sanada grumped, hiding behind his fringe of messy hair. His mother insisted on cutting it, even though she gave him horrid haircuts. “You stepped on my hand.”

“You deserved it.” Crossing his arms Yukimura turned away, looking at the wall. Ignoring the blue kid Sanada went back to playing with his puzzle.

Or, he did until he heard a sad little sniffle from Yukimura’s direction. Glancing up he caught Yukimura’s eye before the other quickly looked away. Eyebrows drawing together in a cute scowl Sanada turned his attention back to his puzzle.

Then he heard another, louder, sniffle.

“…are you any good at puzzles?” Sanada asked, because Mother always said it was bad to be mean to cute girls and Yukimura was almost a girl. “I’m stuck.”
