Break was some sort of cousin of Sharon's, at least that's what they both claimed. Sharon had Oz firmly wrapped around her finger, and she had invited Oz to a party and gotten him involved in a rather risky game of poker. Oz had lost (which was actually a surprise as he was a very good poker player) and instead of taking his money, Break had merely extracted the promise that Oz would come over and do his gardening.
Gilbert, who was wrapped very tightly around Oz's finger, was phoned up by Oz the next day and extorted into helping out. (Oz tried to get his friend Alice to do it too, but she was lazy and refused.) Vincent, Gilbert's younger brother, had refused to let Gilbert go to some strange man's house to do his 'gardening' with just Oz as protection.
Gil was frightfully useless, after all.
So, Vincent, Gilbert, and Oz were all doing Break's gardening, while wearing black pants and white shirts. Vincent was unsure why they needed to wear black pants and white shorts, since they weren't exactly the best clothes for gardening, but Break was supplying the clothes, so he let it pass. Vincent did not know how Break managed to have clothes that fit them all perfectly, or why he had three sets instead of one, since Oz hadn't told Break he was bringing anyone else.
Ah well. Break seemed eccentric and well off.
Oz was holding the hose, staring off into nothing while spraying it up and down the roses. Gil was plucking weeds, and Vincent, the only one with any knowledge of gardening, was pruning.
…and getting a little upset over how spacey Gil was. Gil was either shooting nervous glances at break (who was relaxing under a tree sipping something decidedly fruity and alcoholic) and Oz (who didn't seem to mind that the water splashing his shirt made the fabric stick to his stomach and turn semi-transparent). "Mmm." Vincent glanced at the trail of blue rubber, and then at his pruning sheers. Turning away from the roses Vincent grabbed the hose and…
Snip!
"Aah!" Oz called out, surprised when both his water pressure disappeared, and he was suddenly sprayed from behind. Oz's thin white shirt stuck to his skin now, semi-transparent and glistening in the sun.
"Vincent!" Gilbert rushed to snatch the hose away from Vincent, but Vincent easily kept it out of his brother's reach, a well-placed elbow and a little skirting around took care of it.
"Sorry, Oz." Vincent smiled brightly, his sheers catching the sunlight. "You looked hot."
Under the shadow of the tree, Break chuckled into his tropical drink.
