Rufus knows about Liam and Break. Rufus knows, while not everything, quite a bit. Rufus has been around longer than most, since he first contracted the Barma chain at age 23. (Sadly, the contract made Rufus sterile, he has no heirs, when he finally dies the house will pass to a grand-nephew of some kind.) It is just as well that he is the untouchable Rufus Barma, and that he cannot produce children anymore, because Rufus has always found his eye drawn to pretty, if forgettable, young men.
Liam entered his service at the age of 16, and rose quickly in Rufus' favor. Rufus likes Liam, he likes that the man tries ever so hard to remain stoic in the face of Rufus' antics, and that Liam keeps Rufus' secrets. He tells no one that the real Rufus Barma is the long haired redhead standing in the curtains, entertaining himself watching people play with his illusion. Liam has never disobeyed one of Rufus' requests.
Or, he has only disobeyed in this one request.
"Be mine." Rufus has caught Liam's earring between two fingers, and is using it to keep Liam against him. "I know so much, Liam."
Let me show you what I know.
"Master Rufus." Liam shakes, shivers, but does not break away. Rufus knows that Liam is thinking of Break, of making a break, of Xerxes Break who holds Liam's heart in his careless blood stained hand. "It would be unfit for-" Liam's excuse is perfectly reasonable, but Rufus does not listen.
Xerxes Break has requested that he meet with him, with him and the Vessalius child. Rufus is uninterested in the child, the chosen one, an irritating brat who gives off a twisted image similar to Rufus' own. Rufus has no interest in him.
But maybe now it is time to reveal what he has found out about Xerxes Break, and Kevin Regnard… and to reveal it all to Liam. Then maybe Liam would not feel so twisted inside when Rufus asked. Or if nothing else, Liam would not allow Xerxes Break's night time visits anymore.
