Yuuta was an angry young man.
Syuusuke was not sure when the evolution from troubled boy had commenced, though it had no doubt started when Syuusuke had joined the Seigaku regulars, but he knew that Yuuta had grown into his anger at St. Rudolph’s. It was this anger that made Syuusuke hate Mizuki, just as much as Mizuki’s training methods. Yuuta had not needed to attend a school that would fuel his rage and anger to the point that Syuusuke could feel Yuuta’s emotions vibrate like a rubber band stretched too wide. Yuuta twanged discordantly when interacting with Syuusuke, a minor chord to his brother’s major.

Yuuta’s anger had grown just like his body had. Yuuta no longer had the gangly body of a badly coordinated boy, now Yuuta was beginning to smooth out and grow up. Yuuta still looked like his body was put together from stray pieces found in the bottom of a doll box, some bits too big, some bits too small, but Yuuta’s body was gradually adjusting itself. Yuuta’s voice had been a surprise to Syuusuke, the deep smooth tones of an adult issued from his little brother’s mouth. Syuusuke had wondered for a minute if this was what their father had sounded like, years ago before constant work and travel and chain smoking had forced it into becoming the gravelly tone it was today.

It was not something Syuusuke would ever mention to Yuuta of course. Yuuta hated being compared to others. He hated the color of his hair being similar to Yumiko’s, or that his eyes reminded their mother of her cousin. Yuuta hated being taller than Syuusuke, though Syuusuke thought Yuuta should be proud of it, after all he had beaten Syuusuke on at least one score, and also hated that Syuusuke was slimmer than he. Comparisons rankled Yuuta and reminded him of the things that he had not yet achieved.

Fuji hoped that one day, perhaps, Yuuta would grow out of his anger in much the same way he had grown into it. Fuji thought it might happen during highschool when Yuuta’s body would sort itself out and the pressure of grades and the looming presence of college would leave Yuuta little time to worry about measuring up to Fuji. Maybe Yuuta calming would be a long while off though, a change that would achieved until Yuuta was old and gray and Fuji was ashes scattered to the wind.
