Yanagi didn’t understand why they could not celebrate some sort of non-denominational holiday.
Possibly, on December 23rd, they could have gotten the team together and gone down to the imperial palace to wish the emperor a happy birthday. That would have required no gifts to be exchanged, and certainly no wrapping. Or, they could have celebrated the Winter Solstice on December 22cnd. Yanagi bet that Niou would have loved celebrating the Solstice, if only because Niou disagreed with everything that Christmas represented.

But no, due to globalization, and a consumerist society, Rikkai was celebrating Christmas. Yanagi believed it also had something to do with Yukimura finding any references to the ‘son of god’ entertaining, and possibly because Kirihara still believed in Santa Clause.

“Renji.” Yukimura poked his head into the room, smiling at Yanagi. “Ah, let me help with that.”

Attempting not to pout Yanagi gave a dramatic sigh and allowed Yukimura to unravel him from the elaborate net of ribbons, tape, and wrapping paper Yanagi had found himself trapped in.

Nothing defied data like wrapping presents.
