no is a bad bad word for children to learn

Kenya sucked on his thumb and glared at his cousin who was lying indolently a few feet away.
Indolently was the type of word Kenya’s father liked to use, but Kenya would probably have just said lazy. Kenya’s parents, and Kenya by extension, were visiting with family in Tokyo. Kenya didn’t like Tokyo, and he didn’t understand why they had to visit. Uncle Yoshiro and Aunt Hitomi could have just come back to Osaka, they’d only recently moved to Tokyo and Kenya hated how proud they were of their new house.

Aunt Hitomi was also very mean to Kenya’s mommy. That upset him.

Plus Yuushi was a stupid cousin. Kenya might not have been the smartest kid around but he knew stupid when he saw it. And Yuushi was stupid.

“Aw, the toddlers are playing together.” Yuushi’s mother cooed and Kenya gave her a look. Yuushi was being boring and Kenya was sucking his thumb. This was playing?

“Kenya.” Since his mother sounded disapproving Kenya removed his spit covered thumb from his mouth and whipped it on his pants. “I think it’s bedtime.”

“No.” Kenya stated decisively. It was his favorite word.

“Now, now.” Aunt Hitomi cooed, and didn’t anyone in Yuushi’s family speak normally? “I’m sure Yuushi’ll even lend you his blanky.” Yuushi gave Kenya a superior look and Kenya crossed his arms and snorted.

“No.” He didn’t need no stinking blanky.
